GTS 4.0L
Ha, well this is the dilemma all M car owners face....and if I didn't have the GTS I'd have thought like this, but the M even with £15k work of mods wouldn't live with a standard 981 S. We've all had M cars here and let's be honest, the ride is appalling, even if you stick it on coilovers it's still terrible, the chassis whilst stiff, isn't compliant enough for UK roads. I don't want to come across as a porsche fanboy....and I really love M cars, but the 981 is better in every single way to the ZM.john-e89 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 4:47 pmAh now then, read my mind a bit here. In the cold light of day and being completely non emotional, is there really any need for a Boxster when you have an M..? Wait wait.... Throw on some quality coil overs, new bushes, RTAB’s, Vibratech mounts etc, etc, on an M, Remus boxes if you have any....which you now don’t.... or similar, and you have a hell of a good car for two thirds or so less than a GTS. Is it really good enough to outweigh the savings...?Angelus666 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 4:34 pm I've had my 981 GTS for a few months now and it's an epic car that is brilliant in so many ways. Being completely honest, and as much as I love the M, if you guys want a proper sports car then the 981 Boxster is so much better than the Z4M it's not really even comparable. I have only added 200 miles on my MC in the last 3 months, which says a lot
I'd expect the 4.0 to be better than my 981 in every way apart from the sound. Although you can spec these to £85k fairly easily.
The only thing that is better in the BMW is the indicator stalk quality. I'm being serious.

That is Mrs PVR’s view as well, the M she could not do journeys in whilst the Porsche comfort level is great. I don’t have much of an issue with the M ride quality but the Porsche is a lot easier to live with on U.K. roads.
I do leave the suspension setting generally on the comfort setting though unless when driving abroad.

That was my main gripe with mine to be fair as well, and I certainly appreciate your honesty for sure.Angelus666 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:58 pm We've all had M cars here and let's be honest, the ride is appalling, even if you stick it on coilovers it's still terrible, the chassis whilst stiff, isn't compliant enough for UK roads.

Your M was 100% standard though Paul. To be fair neither of you tried a modded one no....?pvr wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 10:10 pm That is Mrs PVR’s view as well, the M she could not do journeys in whilst the Porsche comfort level is great. There are coil overs and there are coil overs though Angelus. KW’s have lots of adjustment for bump and rebound etc, and good quality springs as you’ll know with softer poundage AFAIK here, top notch quality units, not some cheap bouncy £200 jobbies. Obvs you’ll never make it as flat and neutral as a Porsche, but I can’t help thinking you’ll get a car that will satisfy 90% of it. Having said that I’ve never been in a modded one so I’m going on reviews of owners with this set up etc. Exdos for example once said he wouldn’t have an M on standard suspension, but he loves his coupe on AC Schnitzer units I think he’s got. Then you have the S54....no more needs saying there right...?LeeZ4MR wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 10:17 pmThat was my main gripe with mine to be fair as well, and I certainly appreciate your honesty for sure.Angelus666 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:58 pm We've all had M cars here and let's be honest, the ride is appalling, even if you stick it on coilovers it's still terrible, the chassis whilst stiff, isn't compliant enough for UK roads.
Anyway good news you find the 981 the dogs...I guess we’ll find out after a winter rebuild on my M...KW’s etc, ready to go on....
