Honda S2000

Post by ClumUK » Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:38 pm

Sold this yesterday... Was sad to see it go after four years of fun, but it was time to let someone else enjoy driving this amazing car.
Excellent handling, an engine that begs to be driven hard, and solid short throw gear shifts never failed to put a smile on my face. I'll probably regret this!

Lovely car and you may regret it, but perhaps that depends on what you replace it with!

I think this post needs a next instalment.

I like them but they are so expensive for what they are.

Some people want £9k+ for a 100k upwards car with rusty arches

I still miss mine and its been gone 3 years now. Everytime I see one it makes me regret selling it, I think they have aged so well and are an iconic shape.
Now gone.......Z4MR. 2007. Boring silver.

In yellow, with a matching hardtop... go on, how much did you get for it?

Would have liked one of these a few years ago as a track/weekend car, but alas i think the time to buy one cheaply passed some time ago. Its a unique car we're never gonna see again, absolute last of the high revving naturally aspirated affordable sports cars.

I had a Berlina Black one with red leather at launch.

I pre-ordered about 18 months before launch, and sold it for a profit at 6 months old.

It’s many years now since I’ve driven one, but the gear change on these is one of the best ever.

They are great fun, but harder to drive fast than a 3.0 E85... magnificent engine in Vtec though :driving:

People can ask whatever for they like, but it doesn't mean anyone is actually buying them. Mine had no rust on the arches or boot floor, with no advisories on last two MOTs so was listed at £7,500 which I think is a reasonable price. I may have undersold it actually but it's more than I paid so I'm not complaining.

I'd made some modifications which would have devalued it sadly, I know the buyer was planning on putting it back to stock:

- AEM V2 Cold Air Intake
- Berk High Flow Sports Cat
- Japspeed Stainless Steel Exhaust
- Vibrant Resonator
- Spoon Engine Torque Damper
- Mugen Bushings Set
- Black 17” Rota Wheels “Torque” Alloys

I probably will :( Thing was like a damn go-kart, cornered like it was on rails, a real driver's car. The zed is enjoyable but feels much more of a cruiser, so when switching between it and the Honda at weekends it was like night and day.

I won't be buying a replacement though, I only got my 35is in February so still have three other cars at home.

My step mum had two of these... An 02 one in black with a hard top and then a 07 one in grey with black and red leather. The grey one had the extra spoilers and kit on. Forever got caught on everything. Nice cars and always seemed special. Really cosy with the roof up. The roof split on the grey one and after two repairs it was sold on for an M235i convertible.

A friend has one and raves about it, last year we swapped to have a go on the same piece of road (Z4M roadster and S2000). My Z4 has chassis modifications (KW V3, uprated engine mounts, APs) and his is stock bar exhaust. His nickname for the Z4 is "oldman slipper" and funnily the Z4 felt more sports car than the S2K, seating position was weird felt completely perched on the seat with a low door frame and the steering was feeling so disconnected. When I drove it on track at Anglesey, it was fun and was so keen to oversteer.

Like a lot of Japanese cars of that ilk the controls are almost too light and although the engine revs so sweetly, there isn't the drama that I expected. Gearshift is excellent though. He begrudgingly admitted the Z4M was the more involving car and soon started buying some mods for the S2K.

Don't shoot me but the MR2 MK3 roadster with a decent engine is a better balanced and fun car to drive. :fuelfire:

I've had two.. lovely cars but the plastic dash lets them down.. and a leaky roof. Regularly dropped about a cupful of water on your shoulder just as you drive off! Was sad to see the last one go but the Z4 is a much more grown up car and I wouldn't go back, despite having many fond memories.

I used to have one in 2006-2007 and liked it very much. The gearbox was fantastic, but the lack of torque was an issue and the stereo was very poor, however the rest of the car was brilliant and I would buy another one if I had the room and money.

Here is a picture of my old S2000 GT:-

Image

I absolutely loved this car! A 2004 S2000 GT finished in Moonrock Grey with full red leather interior. The gearbox was excellent! Was a short lived experience, I only owned it for 10 months and decided to sell it to pursue a business opportunity. I really regret selling it, especially for the price I let it go for when you see how much these are worth now.

I was actually considering purchasing another S2000 before I bought my MC, but thought I should try something different and couldn't justify spending nearly double the amount compared to what I purchased my previous one for, to get a nice example.
