I still remember seeing one of these outside a hotel I was staying at in Bahrain - had to do a double-take seeing the door in the 'down' position .
There's a great Wheeler Dealers show of one being worked on by Edd China - worth finding if you're interested.

I wish I had a £ for every time he said ‘normal car’
The Z1 isn’t an E30 with a different body, it only uses the engine, drivetrain and suspension.
The Z1 isn’t fast off the mark compared to today’s hot hatchbacks but once it’s rolling it is a great drive and handles well.
The Z1 was a concept car that was put in production, available from 1989 - 1991, 8000 total production and all LHD.
About 50 Z1’s were made for the UK market.
There are around 80 in the UK at present and I have one of them
