Jag F-Type 'S' ..... almost

Post by enzed4 » Wed Mar 11, 2020 7:49 pm

It's been an interesting week. I've been back and forth to the car dealer just down the road during quiet times at work and as of yesterday afternoon was one deposit away from removing myself from the BMW world and entering the unknown waters of Jaguar ownership.
I had a 2013 F-Type S vert lined up which they were going to hold while I waited for some investments to become available in May. SWMBO got cold feet at the last minute and since there is no happy life with no happy wife, I have cancelled the deal (luckily nothing signed and no money changed hands yet). If it is still on the yard in May we may reconsider but for now this little fishy just wriggled off the hook....

Great looking car that. 8) Not the most practical in the world with that boot. But perfect for a trip down to Akaroa on sunny Sunday. :driving:

I was tempted by one last year when I went to look at the SL, whilst the F Type is prettier and is probably sportier (is that a proper word) the Mercedes was just more practical proposition and in a different league quality wise. Six months in I’m absolutely hooked on the SL, it’s a fantastic car, a comfortable and relaxing cruiser that handles remarkably well and is great to drive. It really does remind me of my e85 but on steroids

I've tried to do some research about this, and all I can find are vague comments like "A buddy of mine had one and it was always in the shop", or "It's a Jag, so it's unreliable" but I can't find anything specific or recurring relating to the F-Type. I'd be interested to know if there's data out there that supports it to help me make up my mind in the future.
Nb - not sure if it was clear in my first post - I was looking at the 6 cylinder 'S' model, not the V8 (which I believe also has an 'S' model)

I love the shape of the F-Type and I've always fancied a manual V6S Roadster(I would prefer the V8 but it is auto only  ).

I have had zero issues with mine , it’s pretty frugal and cheap enough to run, servicing is relatively cheap

The common issues are the exhaust flaps rattling if it has sport rear silencer, rusty brace work under rear diff ( but recall for that) ..
Not a lot else common .. there was a spate of diff leaks due to bad batch of seals but that all seems to be sorted

That's exactly what I was looking for - thanks so much.
It would be good to get a copy of the service history before owning the vehicle, but that PH article seems to be saying you need to own it before you can see what it's had done. Bit late then....

The owner should provide a print out with receipts for service history
