BMW i4 - The Future

Post by BeeEmm » Thu Mar 05, 2020 3:02 pm

Video of the concept BMW i4 due for release in 2021. This will be very close to the production model. 100% electric with a claimed 373 mile range (won't quite get me to Edinburgh though).

What do you think?

Apart from the corporate grille, which looks big enough to garage the i3 in and is arguably not even necessary, I reckon this looks not too bad at all.
It is encouraging that the claimed ranges are slowly creeping up, but you do wonder how much of a 'Miss Daisy' you have to be to get anywhere near that?

I like it and if I was in the market for an EV would have it over a Tesla 3. The grill is a talking point sure but just like Bangles E60 I am sure it will grow on people with time, come to think same goes for the new G29 Z4, it's slowly growing on me :)

It's good looking overall... for a golf cart on steroids (electric cars)

I dont quite understand the grills or the rear valance.
The grills are not needed as its electric and the rear valance looks like it was made for exhausts exiting which again is not needed.
Apart from that it looks like any other family saloon.

Maybe they think it will be more accepted if it looks more like a 'proper' car.

Well I’m sorry to say I absolutely hate it, the only parts that seem ok are the front and rear lights, but I suppose this is progress and design innovation

It got my attention. Hopefully it takes a sharp depreciation hit in the first 18 to 24 months and they can be had for reasonable money at the end of 2022 or the first half of 2023.

I think they mentioned the use of standard body parts with grills and exhaust openings as a way to keep costs down

Personally I prefer its looks to the Tesla, although I am not a fan of the wheels.... Would be nice if it had a V12 and not a dumb electric motor.....

Well at least it looks much more like a car than the gawky i3!

I personally would expect the 'grill' to change slightly and the rear diffusers to 'morph' into some other shape, but I like it. I have currently had a deposit on a Polestar 2 for 12 months (it is due sometime in July 2020) but I am seriously considering this i4. This would be a second car for me and probably a daily driver only doing about 10 miles a day ( I know, retirement is bliss). I am surprised that nobody has commented on the ultra modern interior as it is this that I like more than any other aspect of the car. Driving around in near silence with my 'Tidal' music at a realistic volume is what I desire. The future is whatever colour you like, but it is an electric car that can out accelerate a current M3 and make you feel like you are relaxing in your music room listening to 'Falling in Love from Cigarettes After Sex.' Wonderful!
