Thoughts on the new 1er?

Interested to know your thoughts on the new 1er. I know it's a massive departure from BMW's legacy, being FWD, but it's an interesting move, and doesn't look half bad with some of the M bits, in my humble opinion.

Lost it's USP.. Time will tell if that is good or bad. Otherwise just another entry level car. :tumbleweed:

Nothing wrong with that. I have a Mazda2 that I love. Same sort of thing only from a different mark. :)

I think the colour is it's best feature!

Back towards the end of 2007 I was looking for a smallish diesel as I was doing business miles, so I bought an E87 123d primarily because it was RWD (and I think the 123d was the most powerful 4 cylinder turbo-diesel available at the time).

I know it's styling was divisive, but it didn't look like any other hatch of that size.

For me the latest one looked at side-on could almost be an A-Class - it's only the kidney grilles that mark it out as a BMW.

But now it's also FWD it's lost the one unique feature it had - it's more or less a big Mini in different clothing!

Cover up that ugly face and it looks like an A-class

That's what I thought - those rear side windows look tiny!

The old one series was a lovely elongated and unique looking car, for its entry level position.
It was a proper BMW.

The silhouette of the new one just looks too generic, like a ford focus. It also is a shame that they ditched RWD, which I know is being phased out of other lines too.

What makes a BMW a BMW? It seems like they can disregard their old design principals and just put the badge on anything these days. Nothing wrong with evolving, but personally, this car does nothing for me. I even prefer the look of the pre facelift one series! (Last gen)

I prefer the look of the previous one too (F20/21).

I managed to get an F20 118i Sport as a courtesy car the last time I took my E87 123d for a service at a main agent and I quite liked it, but then I discovered N/A straight 6s!

Anyway this being Z4forum photos are pretty much compulsory, so it seems only right I post one of my E87 123d - which could only be a Bangle era BMW!

Is that a photoshopped pic?
Theres something doesnt look right with the grills.....apart from the obvious that they are not very nice looking.

I don't even need to squint :?
Factor in the Focus is better looking & cheaper to lease or buy then other than badge snobbery ( which is rapidly waning ) why would you buy the Bmw ?

I'm afraid not.
Just received a brochure from my local dealer.
Definitely stuck with the bloody hideous grilles!
