Hankering for an E30 convertible.

Post by Babw » Sun Aug 04, 2019 10:02 pm

Anyone have any experience with E30 convertibles?

Keeping the Z4M but fancy something a bit older to cruise around in. Only a short drive to work and live on the coast so in my mind the E30 would be a superb cruiser for driving slowly on sunny days.

No experience of an E30, but a mate of mine bought a clean E36 Convertible recently and it makes a nice cruiser.

So I can see the appeal.

I'd have thought they'd have been a bit flobbery. But if you're only crusing...

I occasionally drove a friends e30 coupe with a 3.5 lump thrown into it. The thing was a complete animal. I mean it was a complete shed that needed thousands thrown into it to sort the rot out, but there's a part of me that does regret not buying it off him.

I've ended up with a few speed orientated cars and even the Zed I find it difficult to drive slowly, only thing I've owned that I enjoyed driving slowly was a Range Rover and that wasn't really a summer day car.

Really on the hunt for one and probably a 320/325i or engine swap for the noise. If anyone knows of one for sale then do message me.

No problem driving the Zed slowly, or quickly for that matter. Agree the E30 sounds like a perfect lazy day cruiser though.

Tap up inkey$ on here - he’s got a red 325i that he’s done loads to, and at one point recently he mentioned he was looking to sell. Not sure if he did or not. I’ll message him

Here’s the link to PH :

Going up on collectingcars.com soon.

He’s looking for £13k or thereabouts. Inkey$ is very well known on here, it’ll be worth it. Like I said, he’s done a lot of work to it. I’ve seen the car a couple of times in the metal and it’s lovely.

Thanks Bing and hi Babw.
I am indeed. PM me for more details. Not sure where you are in the country but I’m in SE London. As an ex-Z4M owner, I’d love it to go somewhere here.

Lovely car inkey$ but right now it's more than I want to spend and to avoid getting lynched by the missus I'll have to look at cheaper options.

Thanks and no problem! There are a few about; just make sure you get as close to oem as possible, look for the common rust areas and if you can, get yourself a 325 in manual. Don’t listen to the naysayers - the M20B25 straight six is a peach, sounds incredible and even with a ragtop, the vert is more than capable of amazing fun on the twisties :D
