Disc replacement cost

Post by ronk » Tue Mar 19, 2019 9:20 pm

The 335 needs front discs and pads. The Dealer quoted me £640 which I though was way to high.
Now I need them doing as Im off to Germany next month and likely to be doing a little bit more than 70mph - So when I went to book in, they said Ooops! sorry its £840 - we quoted for the wrong disks. I had a winge and got then to knock £100 off but it still a high price i thought.

I got a price from a local and well respected Indy - £500 and it went in today. Then he came back and told me he had dropped a clanger and it was indeed the larger 370mm disk and it would be £640.

I still think its a whacky price but needs must!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

What 335 is this?

Those Discs seem massive if they are OEM ones.

Disc replacement cost

Just paid £610 for a replacement set of discs and pads on my Z4MC - think the discs were about £400 on their own but this was a significant saving on some of the prices I was quoted.

Check out my other post for supplier details and comparison.

It seems that I've just lost touch with prices!
The £640 they are to charge isn't a million miles away - The discs are monster, almost lorry like and the pads match the same proportions in the twin pot callipers.

The brakes, even in their slightly deteriorated state are still better than the average car but they aren’t up to the demands of a hard 150mph stop. There is a 30mm band of build up on the inner face of both discs.

I don’t think it’s acceptable quality but BMW don’t want to know.

When I’ve had the new parts fitted I will post some photos for ref , The outer faces are good and show no signs of the failure on the inner face.

They’re a bargain - should see the price of front discs for a B7 RS4! :(

Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty

They’ll probably tell you that you’re just not using them properly :poke:

Mine tended to be shiny, both sides, with the exception of about 3mm on each edge.

If you want scary braking from high speed, the you should try to stop an Alfa 147 diesel from 140mph when a truck pulls out on you on the autobahn :o
Trigger’s Z4MC

If you shop around, you can find genuine Brembo discs for about £600 (purchase price, not fitted), but Audi will ask for over £1200 to supply and fit front discs and pads :o

Mercedes charge even more for the same discs as fitted to a C63. I can only imagine their coffee is better!

The car goes into an Indy on Tuesday to have the discs and pads fitted £640
I will get a free coffee but it’s in a poly cup with a sipping hole in the lid and no free biscuits.
