Still it looks like you may have decided going by your other thread - good luck with your search.
My 350 was a 6 speed manual
How did you find the gearbox, given that MB don’t use them routinely?
Nothing comes to mind so I assume it must have been ok

That surprises me, I've thought about a Boxster S too............any reliability issues with either ?
That does surprise me. A few years back (probably 13 years :o ) I went on a Scottish hoon in a Mk1 MX5 with 2 other ‘5s, a 1.6 Caterham and an SLK350.
The SLK was fine on the open roads and was obviously easily quick enough to keep up but as soon as we got to the twisty stuff, we lost it easily. The big engine in the front seemed to be the problem in that sort of driving.
I’m sure if it wasn’t trying to chase MX5s and a caterham down single lane Scottish twisties, the sort of roads where they are perfect, it would feel fine though. I don’t think my 35i would keep up either

I suspect an E85 would though.

Never had the fun of driving either the AMG SLK or the MR - but parked at home are a pre-facelift E85 zed and a latest R172 SLK. Forgetting the age - hence spec - differences, I find the driving position of the E85 is vastly superior.
But I don't like that of the E89 either. That and the SLK are both too upright in the backrest for me - because of the folding tin top I'd guess.

I drove a mates first gen AMG SLK the thing was crazy fun good in the corners too. I would have one if I didn’t dislike the looks. But that’s such a subjective thing.

Before owning my current z4 I was a proud owner of the best example of Slk55 AMG in U.K. 1 previous owner and fmbsh serviced every year prior to my ownership which I continued I have to say it was the second one I had the pleasure to own it was blisteringly fast not much under a100k could touch it it has sprint time of 4.9 seconds 0-60 and 360 bhp but it’s a well known fact that a lot of factory spec vehicle run between 360- 390 bhp I had the latter only got rid of it due to financial circumstances I littered cried part exchange for my current car, I would say if you buy one, buy it with fmbsh and low ownership and it will blist any standard z4m effortless I hammered my friends m3 e 93 buy about 4-5 car length it was embarrassing for him.
Also there fast becoming a classic what with there being far a few between of them you really can’t go wrong if you need any advice of these don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll only be happy to advise you

They have a lot going for them at the price point for sure. Watch out for the 2006 model year as you get stung on road tax. Ultimately though, my recent experiences with a DCT equipped F80 BMW M3 has cemented the notion that there is no way I could even have an auto in a sports car, but alas no manual option in the SLK55 AMG

I looked at that one on autotrader not bad being 1 owner things to enquire about how many stamps are in the service book and of them how many and to what mileage where from Mercedes Benz it’s had the all important gearbox service but ask to see proof and who was it done by, also union inspection request that he doesn’t start the car prior to your arrival as you what to see and hear it from cold start also check the conditions of the front and rear discs as they are floating discs cost of replacement s&f in roughly 2k also check the boot area and interior carpets for signs of leaks or dampness as this could indicate water ingress possibly from the rubber seals to and around the power roof also upon inspection when you open the boot lift the carpet up and check u see the spare wheel any sign of rust could indicate blocked drain plugs to right and left side, hope this helps fella
