F type disappointment...

Post by john-e89 » Sun Aug 05, 2018 5:28 pm

The plan since health has returned...rid pure sports car piggy porker for a fat engined roadster that will blast down to the Kernow on a regular basis for surfing weekends, obvious choice an F type, drop dead looks, brilliant car with a matchbox boot but, hey, we can live with that. Filling up for fuel the other week a snarling farting banging V8 Jag draws up to the next pump....chat begins...I’m in love more than before, a V6 supercharged will suffice and let the hunting begin.....that was until I flicked the paddle shifter..... :( ..you’ve all had one of those wet floppy sweaty palmed handshakes from a left wing socialist vegan that hates the world yes..? The kind where you want to scream at the ponce to man up and shake hands properly you whingeing drip... Yes, we all know the type...well one of those drips works for Jaguar and has designed their shifters....for fecks sake why..?? A hairy chested roadster with a tiny barely moving paddle that has a truly pathetic little click... :x Where’s the satisfaction in that..?? Where’s the travel and a properly engineered thunk on up and downshifts to match the fantastic sound from the Zorst...(I learned that word from a copy of Max power once... :? ) Seriously it’s put me right off, completely spoiled a car that ticks every single box for me otherwise... :( :(

Indeed...I can’t think of anything else really, Merc boxes are slow to downshift, the Z DCT is the best auto I’ve tried, as a cruiser a 35is is awesome.

I think that is the main difference between the E85 and the E89. The E89 is so comfortable and more like the original ‘GT’ concept. I love mine whilst recognising it might not be as sharp in in the way it handles as some other sports cars. It is horses for courses and as the years slip by priorities change. Mind you that exhaust note takes a bit of beating. Makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck every time I start it. Good luck with your search.

Do they not do a manual for F type. Or is it a ZF slush box. :( I liked the look of them but they are heavy cars

If you fancy neck snapping flappy paddle gear changes, an outstanding induction growl, large boot and smiles for miles with sensible MPG you need a CSL, gives me buzz every time I take it out :driving:
Current - Z4 MC, M3 CSL, S54 Z3MR, Z1.

I don’t have eleventine squillion ruppees for one Gazza, plus it’s a GT car I need, those CSL’s are far too track focused for my needs.

I talked to a fella at a classic car rally in the Black Forest area of Germany yesterday.
The chap is 84 and takes delivery of his newly built AMG later this year - let’s hear it for all the oldies who don’t want to grow up!

Part of his sensible/ pragmatic side made him choose a smaller engine — he said 550 ps was enough !

His family despair
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Mate of mine bought one. Endless bouts of piddle taking, by all and sundry. Poor disillusioned fool.... :-D :-D
