What next need 4 seats and autobox

Post by Bluecat » Fri May 11, 2018 6:22 pm

Dear Wise and wonderful Zedliners, am pondering what to get next, due to back problems need an autobox, and 4 ish seats. Want something you dont see everyday and if possible to reasonably hold its value?. Budget of up to £20k (more if a 911!!) Thought about the following, Scirocco R, Golf R (maybe) Alfa Gulietta QV, (the 240bhp one) 997 3.6 tiptronic (would be more than 20k as want sub 50k miles). Anyone else got any suggestions as I am stuck??

Had a 2007 TT which was a pile of s*ite, the dsg box had to be replaced under warranty, so not sure about a TTS, seems a good car on paper though

From what I've seen I don't think I'd say the TT has 4ish seats to be fair - only 2 look usable for anyone with legs.

I would have suggested 2 Series, E92/93 or 4 Series, but none of them is something you don't see everyday! Mind you a Golf R also tends to be something I see most days.

Also not that rare, although I tend to see less than Golf Rs, but what about a Seat Leon Cupra?
Coupes because stunning!

We test drove a Giulietta QV a few weeks back. Annoyingly the missus made me put a deposit down on it and then changed her mind :headbang:

Anyway. It was pretty quick and sounded fantastic inside. The front seats are a work of art 8) The dash however looks like cheap plastic.

Overall, a lovely car and definitely something you don't see everyday. Only things I'd be worried about are parts costs and resale value.

She opted for an A200 sport AMG in the end. Slower, yes. More common, yes. But it's a really nice auto box and has the shift paddles. Build quality is massively better and it feels like a nicer car to drive.

The QV is a beautiful car, but make sure you buy with your head, rather than heart if it's a daily.

Was going to suggest an e46 SMG M3 or an e90/92 DCT M3.

You could even pick up a V10 M5 for that amount, but don't forget to factor in expensive maintenance/warranty.

How about something from Jag - an XKR maybe, or something more Italian in the form of a Maserati Quattroporte or German in the form of a Mercedes CL500 or C63 AMG?

Some great ideas, thanks for all these. Still tempted with a 997 if I can get one for a good price, also like the idea of an XKR especially the pre 2006 cars. Love the sound of the alfa QV but the price drop in a couple of years would be horrific. Other mad leftfield idea is an XJS Celebration if I can find one without a rusty scuttle! Will keep you posted

What about a Bentley Continental? It’s insane how cheap these cars are. Supposed to be pretty reliable too. Not sure about the running costs though

I noticed you were considering an XJS so assumed you wouldn’t be doing many miles. Round town yes probably 4 mpg but you might get up to 17 on a motor way. If you are doing 4000 miles a year I reckon petrol will cost you just under 2 grand :driving:

Parts and repair costs are eye watering. My mate looked at them before deciding to buy an E60 M5. Those are rather cheap in comparison
