Congratulations mate
Since selling my Z I’ve had 2 Tiguans and now I’m in an RSQ3.
You soon get used to the size and to be honest I’d find it hard to go back to something small as a daily driver.

Had a modded 335i, E92 - heavy bulky car - 4 doors might be better.
BMW's 140i's are great value for money
However, I went from an E89 Z4 28i - to an M2

Personally I’d steer clear of the N54 (335i). I’ve had every thing that can go wrong, go wrong, and it’s a pain. Great engine when on song but just not robust.

I am in similar position although I have now bought said replacement. For me any sport model S Audi or M BMW was ruled out for two reasons; Firm suspension and sleeping baby sounded like a bad mix to me and the increased running costs of servicing/tax/when things go wrong etc with the Wife not working made it a risky liability to have, what with M tax
Totally back up others comments re: number of doors, even on my Wife's Kuga it was a pain getting seat in and out let alone a 2/3 door car!

Sad to see your Zed go James, however congrats on your pending fatherhood. Do stick around and update us with details of your new motor - any of your top 3 choices look good to me

For me of your list it would be the 335i. Id just want to make sure all of its regular failings (injectors etc) had already been done.

Firstly, congrats!
Can I just add that accessibility of hatchback/estate/etc is much better than a saloon when it comes to ease of getting things in and out. Particularly in the first year or two - you wouldn't believe the amount of crap you have to cart around and how stressful it can be trying to get it in and out with everything else going on!

335i touring sounds good to me, but valid comment made about the ride firmness. Perhaps something a little more baby friendly shouldn't be ruled out just yet.
I've got a Passat for Dad duties and the Z for Jamie fun. Works for me

Thanks for the comments guys, will definitely be sticking around here, SI is going towards paying for the family car, unfortunately. Definitely won't be my last Zed though but and hopefully could be looking again as soon as this coming winter (when prices are low) see if I can pick up a cheap half-knackered pre-facelift to tinker with.
That is a good point! SE spec on the BMW search then, maybe even an A4 Avant, but still part of me is thinking the supercharged Jag would be a sensible option

Our previous M Sport e91 330i rode like a limo compared to my Z4, it really wasn't harsh at all.
Likewise our recently purchased A3 with S Line suspension is plenty soft and not crashy.
