My MK2 was pink when I picked it up. After a good T cut and polish, she is gleaming red. Nothing wrong with Toyota red as long as you give it a polish :P

Wasn't the GT6 the poor mans E Type, nice exampe. My brother had a girlfriend who had a Herald Vitesse which I think had the same 6 cyl engine, sounded smooth as butter. Not sure I would want an older car to be honest.

If you want a Coupe you might as well buy an E86 - cheaper than a GT6 and quicker than an E-Type! :D
(Obviously I'm in no way biased). :)

Anyway, if I was thinking of an MR2 I'd be after a MK2 - lovely looking cars.

When I met my wife she had a 1990 black MR2 T-bar G Ltd. She had put 17" wheels on it which made it look amazing.
It was a cracking car that was just really good fun to drive and looked cool.
Owned it for around 10 years and only got rid of it as the sills were starting to rust and there were no replacements.
Only downsides I can think of was it burned quite a bit of oil and hers didnt have leather interior.
While she had it and we were looking to change it we went to see a mk3, we didnt even get as far as opening the door before turning around and walking away. No where near as good looking as the mk2.
Almost swapped it for a Mitsubishi GTO but after having it for an hour the deal was off as the GTO would not go in to reverse. Got rid of it quick after that as 1 of the sets of keys took a few days to be returned. Traded it for a Hyundai Coupe which was actually a really good car.

Yes they did refer to it as the poor mans E, not a bad link to the awesome E Type. They did use the same 2.0 straight 6 as the Vitesse and the 2000 saloon, a silky smooth engine :)

And such a pretty car to boot. Many wants for one.

I'd definitely vote a Mk2 MR-2. Love the fact that they were a car of many hidden secrets, of which took years to extract fully.

I think it was my third car, and first 'proper' sports car progressed to. I could never put my finger on it, but every time I got out the car I felt a slightly, tiny, tiny bit better driver. I knew the car a little bit better, and I got satisfaction out of that. The way the centre of gravity was a little bit too high, the willingness of it to bite when provoked, you had to know its limitations and drive within them. Only after doing that, could you really exploit it - being foot to the floor on the accelerator whilst anything front engined was toeing the brakes being a particular favourite. That and traction out of the corners, in the dry at least. You had to be smooth with it at all times, else it would spit you out - the engine too, was a lively fellow.

I can't explain it that clearly, but I really bonded with that car as it just never gave everything to you all at once - much like the Boxster that replaced it. Infinitely superior car, but it didn't have the pull for me.
