I had the v6 dsg mk1 tt, and it was hardly slow.
but the dsg box was a nightmare for problems.
when it worked it was good, but they were prone to issues, and I lost all confidence in it in the end.
but it certainly was not slow, 247bhp if I remember correctly, but I do love my z.

You just need to add a 350Z, Porsche Boxster and Mercedes SLK to your shortlist

Autotrader shows all of them available for under £5k - the SLK showing the most, followed by the Boxster, and then the 350Z.
I’m not saying I’d have any of them myself. I was just throwing other options onto the table

350Z is an animal pre 2005 has the lower tax band - after 2005 it's £500 ! Coupe version looks and handles better than the roadster - MPG is terrible but goes like shite off a shovel

yes ,there is a lot of muscle out there for small change money these days and no one has yet mentioned the S2000,an absolute beaut when you get the revs really spinning but a little hard core for me.
At the end of the day a ragtop has to look right as well as go right and stuff like the 350Z and SLK just just don't do it for me.
Love the idea of posting the reverse question on the Audi TT mk1 forum.
Might do it when I get a minutes to spare.

I had a TT Coupe back in 2004 and loved it. Longest I've ever owned a car, had it for 3 years.
It felt like a well built car, the seats were lovely and the interior was different (felt a lot nicer than my E85 / E86).
If you are into modding then the steering can easily be sorted / improved with a few subtle improvements - defcon and R32 ARB's.
Would i choose one over a 3.0 E85. No

TT = Total Tedium
I made the mistake of having 2. My wife's Z4 3l, bought a couple of years after I dumped the second TT, was a far nicer car to drive and be in.

The TT will be much better car if you want to go for more power cheaply, has much better interior and generally feels better put together than a z4. Only went for the z4 because it was less common and has a more involving drive out of the box.
