Audi TT roadster or Z4

OK so I've posed the same question on the TT forum and am beginning to get some responses.
The general feeling is that the TT is better built, better cabin but doesn't handle like a Z4 .
It also carries a spare wheel without compromising the boot which I like.
Evidently a few mods will make a big improvement to the TT handling.
I think I am going to have to have a few trips round the dealers and take their cars for a ride and see which one I prefer .
Interesting eh?

If you're coming from a lotus, then consider this:
Z4 3.0i manual (pre-fl, 231HP): 1290kg
Audi TT roadster 3.2q manual (mk1 250hp): 1560KG
Audi TT roadster 1.8Tq manual (mk1 225hp): 1515kg
I'm guessing your current elan weighs 1000-1100kg?

Even an pre-fl nissan 350z roadster with the nice 280hp engine and stock LSD is.......1610kg (just as heavy as my volvo XC70 estate diesel  )

The TT might have a spacesaver, which is nice indeed, but the z4's boot is considerably bigger I think.

And you asking this on a Z4 forum OP?! :poke:
It's the TT all the way!!!
Just kidding Marlon!😂😂😂
I had two TT's back when they were a new/current model. All I can say that hasn't already been said one way or another is I wish I'd bought a zed instead. At the time test drives of the zed on runflat tyres and its very stiff suspension coupled to doing a fair amount of mileage put me off but that's easily remedied. So did the Chris Bangle design in the early days. i certainly remember preferring the then edgy drop dead looks of the TT at the the time, but its aged quickly and looks quite soft and nothing special these days. At the same time the zeds grown on me over the years, especially when they face lifted it and dropped the ginger, i know im biased but i still think a nice E85 looks fairly fresh. The i6 engined zeds have on the whole proved to be a bit more reliable than the TT's aswell. Like I said in hindsight I should have bought a zed in the first place.

I have both a mk2TT and Z4mc....the TT is a better daily car, whereas the Z is a better drivers car. The BMW is mechanically a better car, but the interior of the Audi is better. I'd sell the TT over the Z4 every time.

Not sure that helps your decision.

Here's the thread on the TT forum if anyone is interested! They didn't give the Z4 much of a bashing actually...in fact most of them seemed to be talking about the Z3 :headbang:

If you are thinking of a TT I would avoid the 1.8T. They are the most soulless, characterless engines ever built.
I had one tuned to 230bhp in a mk2 golf and it ruined the car, don't know why I ever bought it.

In my opinion a roadster is all about driving experience, which the Z4 wins on hands down. Everything else comes a distant second

Thee TT guys comments are interesting, tho most like you said on the Z, TBH you need to drive both and see which one puts the bigger smile on your face

Google “dash pod fault” before you make the decision, not sure if it only affects certain TT’s but I know some of the early ones came up with some fairly expensive issues (I had a TT coupe).

more interesting replies, much appreciated.
I get the impression the Z4 is more robustly engineered than the TT and the moment you get into older cars ie 10 + years and around 100K miles it's something that needs to be considered.
The other thing I am seeing is that there are not that many 3.0 Z4's around so choice is not that good, hopefully the warmer weather will bring out more .
