Kia Soul EV / Other Electric Alternatives

Post by bluestreak56 » Fri Jan 05, 2018 9:57 am

Hi all, anyone had any experience with the Soul EV or other EV vehicles?

Our Kia dealer has offered us a trade in our our 61 plate Soul Hunter CRDI Auto (25k miles) for a 67 plate Soul EV (4K Miles) for a cost to change of £13k..

Drives well but my biggest concern is the range (realistically 80-90 miles per charge).

Other EVs dont seem to have the same level of practicality (comfortably seats 5 full adults) and gives the elevated driving position.

Just wondered if anyone had an experience / advice

PS happy new year all :D

That would pay for a lot of fuel...

Why bother?

have a look at pricing on the lexus CT200H similar to the soul just as slow  does about 20 miles from a plug in charge but has the practicality of the petrol engine

This one is same mileage but you can buy outright for not much more than the add on from yours

Edit: Actually looked at what yours is worth thought it would be more so maybe it is a decent deal if you wanna go EV

Thanks for the feedback all, after testing the Soul EV for 24 hours, I rang 3 dealers to play them off one another. Managed to negotiate a Titanium Silver Soul EV 67 plate with 600 miles on the clock for a cost to change £12.5K inc 3 years servicing and free delivery to our door / collection of the old Hunter.

In terms of the car, its the right shape / size / height for the family so that was the easy sell for my mum as she didnt want anything larger. It is a lifestyle change and so I will report back as the range isnt amazing (80-100 miles depending on conditions) but its fine for what we use it for and a much better choice than the diesel auto we have presently

Good to see one that looks like a "normal" car, rather than the gopping Prius sort of stuff.

It would be interesting to see what you think of it once you've used it for a while.

The Soul EV (100 mile range) is £26k OTR after the government discount on the £30k ticket, compared to the standard model starting at £14k.

Looking elsewhere £26k buys some very competent and efficient motors, I don't get it personally but it will be interesting to see how you get on and what the residuals are like. I hope it works for you

Absolutely - Other than the wheels, some very slight skirt changes, the grill/air intake and three discreet badges its virtually the same as a regular Mk2 Soul..

Nice colour Rob  The warranty is very good, near unbeatable IMO

Absolutely bud, the cost is prohibitive on a factory order car.

Carwow were offering me a new one for £23k.

With 600 miles on the clock and just 4 months old we managed to get ours for £17.5k and its a MY2018 model with the newer 30KW battery (realistic range between 90 and 110).

Not much else on the market for that price, that age and mileage with the same practicality, warranty, tech or running costs..

One of the biggest factors for choosing the Soul for us was the inside space..

Based on my calculations it should depreciate quite linearly at £2-3K a year until year 4 when it will drop around £1300 a year onward..

Age Value Retained
New 100% £25,995
0 90% £23,396
1 75% £19,496
2 64% £16,637
3 56% £14,557
4 50% £12,998
5 45% £11,698
6 40% £10,398
7 35% £9,098
8 30% £7,799
9 25% £6,499
10 20% £5,199
