The new alpine ???

Whats everyones opinion on this, all aluminium construction, looks GREAT, small , compact, interior to my eyes looks fabulous, price FEELs steep at 50k , 236hp, Dual clutch ( this doesnt bother me) mid engined, i think they've nailed this thing to the core..... i adore it, and when they start offering the tuned up versions or the tuners get hold of them, what a package...... LOVELY, and imo one of the best cars to come in 2018!!!!!

This months EVO gives it a very high rating - 5 stars - in their 1st full test. The light weight means the horsepower is enough for 4.5 to sixty.
They say it's better than the Cayman it was aiming to compete with.

Looks don't do it for me at all, and neither does the price! I'm sure it's worth it though, just not for me

I know the price feels crazy but lets put it this way, what would a z4m be in todays money???? 70k?? 75k???

in TODAYS world this is alot of car for the money and the materials used for the build cant be ignored. i would have like to see manual but again im not overly concerned, to be going up against the likes of the cayman and winning, this is a serious car, i think this will steal a MASSIVE amount of sales from Porsche, lets not forget their is also a whole heap of heritage with alpine name as well.

i absolutely applaud renault for this and reviving this brand to bring a proper sports car. i can see some z4m members heading for this as well.

I've put my name down for one of the Premiere Editions but I'm not sure I will take it up yet. I like the reviews but I wonder if the journos have got carried away a bit? Steve Sutcliffe seems to like it a lot though and I tend to agree with him on cars. Coming from a car history with several Renaults I do have my reservations about the gearbox and engine however.

Its tempting however, not sure about renault after sales care on a £50k+ car, wonder if there will be special Alpine centres

The weight they’ve hit is insane, given that the trim level actually looks ok and the powerplant isn’t out of a moped. Closer to the gross weight of to a current Elise than a Z4 or Boxster. They’ve basically nailed it where Alfa missed with the 4C, which is a shame because the Alfa still looks better, IMHO.

I like it, but if it was your only sports car, could you really spend £50k on a Renault....??? M2, Cayman, TTRS....

Personally I'd rather they'd spent the gearbox budget on a manual box and a proper diff. As good as all these electronic solutions are, I can't help feeling a car like this would be better off with a more mechanical, manual setup especially since they've clearly gone to huge lengths to create a proper drivers car in other aspects.

Seems expensive to me too, at 40k I think it makes much more sense but I'd imagine it will hold its value reasonably well if supply is limited so the residuals should offset the purchase price for some time. Great option to have for those looking for a new, quick, agile toy (checks behind sofa, etc!)

I do like these but no manual option and a high price tag will put a lot of people off. 50K drops it into Porsche Cayman territory, poor reliability and aftercare worries would put me off. If I was going to spent 50 grand on something made from plastic I'd buy a Lotus

I agree - although it does seem a better effort than the 4C, no manual option would put me right off.

If I had that sort of budget for a new lightweight toy I'd head to Lotus too!
