Back in a BMW!

Post by aquazi » Fri Oct 20, 2017 1:36 pm

Been absolutely ages since i logged back in here.... still a couple of familiar names (BING, CJ etc!) good to see the old crowd is still here!

I found a box of old Z4 things (which i need to shift!) and reminded me to log back in!

Well I had my TT for 2.5 years and even got it stage 2+ remapped (around 360hp) But i made the mistake of looking for a new car in summer - and lost the love for my TT ever since.. then stopped looking back at it when parked, or cleaning it :o bad i know.

Started off looking at a Z4, then moved to the M240 and finally (before i ended up with something too big) ordered a 435d with a lot of toys!... not as fun as the TT - but its a damn fast - can catch a lot of people out as they dont expect it to sound they way it does - but shift they way it does too - way faster than TTS.

A few pics of hand over day...

And the mods have began already! Ordered the full M performance body kit - couldnt wait for it to arrive before picking the car up so said i'll sort it myself whenever they arrive - new front grills with a layer of wax and ready to go on

I do miss my z4 and sadly was trying to emulate it... hence the m240.... just cant get a child seat in the back without dislocated your shoulder

Was very tempted with snapper rocks blue... but then thought i’d go for the panda look and get a black and white theme going!!

I think its only pushing 310bhp but the torque is something else 465lb ft! 0-60 is meant to be 4.5s but having tried launch control once i wont be doing that again.... the engine revs then shoots off with the tractor sound!!

Overall its certainly more a cruiser than a sporty number... did 250 miles yesterday and is very comfortable!

The one and only thing i do miss with the Audi is that they have 2 footrests... so when on cruise control you can rest both feet... its the little touches which audi perfected... despite being so dull!!

I test drove both, the 440 felt more refined and i preferred the sdrive to the xdrive... but the diesel has much more poke (the torque curve) and av 50mpg on my 70mile daily commute...

I also prefer the duplex exhaust on 440 vs the single twin on the diesel.... i very nearly got the 440 with the mppk but couldnt justify the £2k for that!

What i do hate is that the xdrive sits like its on stilts even in msport with adaptive guise... may have to get some ac springs to sort that!!

Fair enough, just thought it was odd that you were happy to run a petrol on that mileage before.

The 440 with the MPPSK is rapid as you also get a power hike as well as the exhaust, surely more than a match for the diesel.

Looks nice, we’re you not tempted with the mk3 TTS?

Really like these and they're really quick  made the same engine change as you going from the TTS to the 640d, love the multi function dash as well, enjoy it. :driving:

I did for a while... but just felt much the same - aside from the nicer interior!

My first choice Audi wise was the S5, especially as could fit adults in the back.

But Audi just dont hit the spot like bmw do!!

Very nearly got swayed by the 640d, as BMW were offering a cracking deal on them (in 0% finance) you also get a lot more nice bits standard on it.

Just couldnt make the size jump from the TT to the 6er in one go!

The culture shock from the TTS to 640d is a big one! I loved how nimble the TT was and it's not overly heavy, the 640d feels heavy and it feels really big on tighter back roads too.
