Post by john-e89 » Fri Sep 09, 2016 3:31 pm

Hey chaps,

This scuff is on a car I'm very interested in buying, other than this it looks mint, does anyone have an idea of how would be best to sort it out, I'm guessing blow it over with a gun and blend it into the wing or could it be done more local than that, ie, not have to blend it in very far? Any ballpark on cost so I can factor it into negotiations?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

How about one of those guys who come to your work/home to do it. They can blend in paint, garages use them all the time. Are you sure that won't T cut out ??

I hav'nt seen it myself but the owner says he's polished it, so I presume it needs painting. I thought of chips away etc but heard mixed views about them.

That's when reviews and word of mouth comes into it. D4dawg has a friend who does sterling work, but he's in Aylesbury Bucks

you'd need to qualify what that means. Could just be he has put some wax on it.

I had a deep scratch right along the back quarter. About 400mm long after someone decided my car was obviously too shiny. Got auto restore who came out and repaired in the drive. £110 all in and done a great job.

Hope this helps.

I'll have to ring and ask him but I would presume he's tried polishing it out as you would if you we're selling a car, he used the word polish not wax and speaking to him he seems to know cars. Yes yes he bought an E89 but you can't judge the guy on that.....

3000 grit sand paper, wet, do it till you see the deep marks gone, after you wipe off with water. The water shows you where you need to sand as its like wet paint. After it looks clear with a wipe, dry, polish a couple of times. Dont let the polish dry, wax and seal. Will look like brand new.

I've used a real perfectionist magician here in Somerset about six times in the last few years, he uses various techniques depending on the damage and gets brilliant results.

I would factor in a cost of between £100 and £200 for someone to make a perfect job either at home or in a workshop.
The results I've had from a local company coming to the house and doing it on the drive have been remarkable, damage incurred on the garage brickwork and a lot worse than yours.

Derbyshire Lynchy, shame, I would have given you a shout if I was nearer. Having said that, the car is on Baker St London, if I bought it how far are you away from central London?
