Leather Seat Restore (scuffs and scratches)

Post by PawnSacrifice » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:45 am

After some earlier posts I have been asked about leather restoring a few times, so this time I thought it'd be as easy just to do a new post - save on emails. I used Liquid Leather Scuffmaster (copied the order details below). The colour match was very good (black leather) and the little white crease lines in the leather soon went - it's a wipe-on / wipe-off application. If you have bigger scuffs try applying with a tooth pick.

Sample before -

Here's what I did:
Cleaned with Zymol.
Wipe down with damp cloth (around the scratch only) and leave for 5 minutes
Wipe with cloth with Liquid Leather
Use tooth pick to pencil in the cracks
Wipe down after 1 minute
Wiped over once more with Liquid Leather
(proper instructions with the product)

After:

It says to dilute 10% with water but I've not bothered, just applied with a damp cloth.

Order details - for my black leather:
Your order from http://www.liquidleather.com has been recieved and is processing.
Product : Quantity : Price
Liquid Leather Scuffmaster 65ml Kit BMW, Z4, 2003, Black : 1 : £12.85

The Liquid Leather site is quite good, listing the different colours - you can mail them if your's is not on there. I did a small test on an out of sight part of the seat before I went for it. I now just keep the dye in with my cleaning kit and any time the seats start to look a little worn I give them a wipe, works well IMO

I haven't tried any other products but this seemed to work for me, for black leather.

That's a good result - I think I'll be buying that very soon!

Got four Z4 seats all in need of touching up, including one with a sizeable/noticable scratch on the seat base from a mate's jeans studs (I think).

Great tip! They also have a product for your motorcycle leathers & gloves - I'll give that a try.

PawnSacrifice, Good link!
I'm not sure which black i'm supposed to state. Do you know the code by any chance? What did you enter in the box section? :?

It says on the colour list, "BMW blacks, we send out the darkest, you can alter with the toners in the 65ml kit."
So I would have entered: "BMW, Z4, 2003, BMW Black"

To add, I haven't used any of the toners on mine, but as with others may need to, depending on the amount of fade.

I was about to post a new thread asking how I could get rid of this:

Image

Not sure how it happened, but its like a scuff mark from a fingernail. :? I've probably got the side bolsters pumped up too firmly.

The 65ml kit is now £14 :poke: :P

I have a suspicion that black Kansas leather is slightly lighter than black Oregon leather, although I guess the toner solution makes the dye lighter in colour?

Just ordered it! :D

Bolsters pumped up too firmly? You can pump them up?

And the scuffmaster kits are brilliant! Stunning results every time

Has the price changed? Looks to be £14 now? Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

£14 is still a bargain, as to get it done by someone you are looking at least £100! And probably no where near as good!
