Big Bad Boris wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:35 pm My daughter bought a new (used) car today. Somebody had clearly put a sticker with Paw prints on the petrol flap. The sticker has been removed but left some of the backing adhesive still on the paint. Any tips on how to remove this without damaging the paintwork by scraping etc

Also given how sad we are on here, I will give 5 bonus Z4 for points for anyone that can identify what car it is (it’s not. BMW).

Spray with WD40 and wipe off, a mechanic showed me years ago when I’d stuck a window up late at night as an emergency repair with duct tape and couldn’t get the tape residue off.

I’m not guessing on the car, that’s be cheating
Yes it would- we used to call that insider dealing back in my working days :D
 Good you’re sorted and you can get back to the proper job in hand :driving:

I hope you get the residue problem sorted

i just came up with the ultimate sticker residue remover - a little spritzer bottle filled with white spirit. Simply spray the residue, leave to sit for a minute then wipe off with a bit of kitchen paper.

If only check engine lights were as easy to deal with... :-?

Alcohol or Nail polish remover, will remove it. Dab it on and let it sock in, just wipes of. Wash off residue afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestions one and all, my daughter is going to pop round with the car on Thursday as she’s off work and we are gonna give a polish etc so I will have a go at the sticker then and report back. Probably try WD40 in the first instance.

So finally got to the sticker today. Removing the cap didn’t appear to be as simple as I thought, so we tackled it in place. Rubbed WD40 on it as best we could a couple of times. Then basically my daughter worked on it with a finger nail for a fair while and it’s pretty much gone. There are a couple of marks on the cap, probably where somebody tried to remove it before but it looks much better 👍

I used WD40 to remove the sticker residue on my car's windshield.
