Full Respray Cost?

Post by grumpybri » Fri Jun 19, 2020 4:44 pm

Thinking of getting a full respray done on my Alpina. After 15 years, some cheap paint repairs and not enough polish my car is now looking it’s age.

Will keep the same black, does not need door shuts, etc, what can I expect to be charged?
I’m in the North East if anyone can throw me some recomendations. :driving:

For a job worthy of your Alpina I'd budget £3.5 - 5k

I got one done in falkirk for £1100, but Mister T is right, for an alpina you'd be wanting something special!

Personally, I’d want it painting into the door shuts otherwise it’s going to be obvious and it’s not much extra work anyway.

If I was wanting a car I’d owned for 15 years repainted, with a view to keeping indefinitely, I’d want a proper job.... but that doesn’t mean paying £5k.

Paintwork is paintwork, even though it’s an Alpina. I’m not in your part of the UK, but I’d be very surprised if you needed to pay much more than £3k for a high quality job with a bit of research

I would imagine that many body shops will be crying out for work, RTA’s must be massively down in the UK!

As above £3,000 to £5,000 for a proper job.

Should be closer to the 3 mark as your car is a convertible, however if you have the hard top it do aswell that will bump up the price.

Full Respray Cost?

Just joined the group but work in this area.

When our customers want a full respray it can mean anything and it’s often a case of asking what their unconscious expectations are.

For a Z4 we could quote between £5k and £13.5k. The mor expensive the more time spent prepping. There are always ripples, minor dings etc but the more you pay the more rubbing down, flatting and repolishing you pay for. A £5k will allow for removing any ‘fish eyes’ (dust landed in the paint while spraying) defects. Above that and you start to get into triple lacquer layers with removing orange peel (1200 Sanding, followed by 3000 and 6000 trizact buffering). It will also allow for different types of polishing. Rotary or DA polishing are totally different.

Wow, don’t doubt you guys do nice work, but anyone spending £5-£13k for fresh paint for a Z4 needs their head examining 🤯
