I felt exactly the same but there really is nothing to worry about. I watched a few videos which were really helpful. It is worth the trouble and a lot cheaper than using a professional detailer.

Looks great and the red really pops. Remove those awful M badges and you’re there.

First attempt with a DA polisher

I took 3 days on my M - I’m no detailer and used a DA polisher, I was just a little patient and careful.

Looks awesome. I test drove a few Melbourne Red Z4's and the colour was very very flat. You've definitely brought the best out.

I used AF Iron Out for the first time, amazing the number contaminants on what I always considered clean-body work, it was clayed about 1000 miles ago.

Thanks mate, I’m absolutely chuffed to bits. I thought the car was clean as the previous owner had it detailed just before I bought it however, when I installed new LED lights in my garage all the little swirls in the lacquer jumped out so it went from 1 panel to the whole car!!!

I’ve been giving her some TLC to be fair, I refinished the bar behind the grill and the rear dust shields as they had corroded - I blacked the grills too. Not major jobs but for me, they made a big difference.

First attempt with a DA polisher

My DA is meant to arrive in the next few days!! However picked up a set of foam pads.... Hoping they will be enough!

My plan is to use the Meguiars Ultimate Compound and see how that goes. Also have their matching polish or my usual AG Super Resin.

How long did the effect last? I recently did my car's first clay -> polish -> wax and it lasted about a week. I've got some compound so I'll do that soon then polish and wax again. Then I'll consider whether to get it machined or not.

I finished mine off with a couple of coats of Wolfgang Paint Sealant which is easy to apply and remove. You can find it on EBay. The shine has stayed so far and the car still looks good. However, it is garaged and doesn’t get used in the way a ‘daily’ would. So it doesn’t stand outside all day in all weathers.
