Is there such a thing as vinyl resto paint, as you can buy for leather etc?

THis has nothing to do with restoring my dash or the seats of an old Ford Cortina
but it has everything to do with my ongoing mission to keep old technology alive!

I bought a vintage Sony field recorder today and while the unit has fared well over the years and scrubbed up nicely to an almost as-new finish, the case alas has not.

It's one of those nasty 70's style leatherette protective cases and I'm sure it's seen action around some of the worlds troublespots in its' day as it's proper mashed!

Ah, it's not that bad I suppose. I'm hoping I can source something like vinyl paint instead of using a black magic marker to cover up the grey underlayer. Then use something like a flexible plastic laquer on top. Maybe even paint the whole thing again and seal it somehow.
I've seen some vinyl repair kits on the interwebs but they look like a faff tbh.

Maybe I could give it a spray of Plastidip....hmmmm.

Any ideas?

Putting this...

.... would be like putting a cloth cap on a sows ear. No, that's not the phrase I'm looking for... a silk purse on a cows foot...?
er nvmd. lol

Posting for advice before completing one's own research. Tardy. lol

Looks like Rust-oleum fabric and vinyl spray may be the way to go, unless anyone can chime in with something better....?

Years ago I used Vinylkote to renovate the interior trim panels and dash top in an old Merc 250SL. Looked brand new afterwards

Looks good. thx!
Have found a few options now but very few paint-on solutions, only aerosol cans. Possibly best/restricted-to storage medium.
