Reviving wing mirror bases back to black

Post by tee.gilding » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:43 am

Hi all,

On my E86, the wing mirror bases (the black plastic bits which connect to the door) have faded and are quite grey. I use trim products regularly to revive them, but it only lasts a week or so before looking dull again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to revive these back to their former glory and have them black and glossy full time?

Thanks!

I've got some of that for my interior and it is great stuff. I dont think it's a permanent trim restorer though for exteriors?

That looks exactly like what I'm after. Is it easy to apply? I tried their ceramic coating on my wheels and I don't think it did much (probably user error...).

It's all about the prep. You have make sure all contaminates have been removed, but after that it is really easy. You also need to give it plenty of time to cure. Gutted to hear you didn't think too much to the ceramic coating - I'm a huge fan and it took me a couple of times to get it bang on. If you do the right prep, and give it the time it takes / needs I'm sure you'll soon be a fan. I used Carbon Collective for my wheels, paint and glass - the glass actually being my favourite of what they do and would highly recommend. Doing 30mph when its raining and not needing to use your wipers is brilliant!!!

Ceramic coating is the way to go for sure. You should make sure it's very clean though, including an isopropyl alcohol wipe down beforehand to ensure a good bond.

Get yourself to a bodyshop and have them colour coded to the car for £100, the plastic looks really cheap and not fitting to the car.

Never thought about doing that! Like the idea but would want to see it first - have you had it done?
