Contamination order

Post by ihadablackdog » Thu Feb 21, 2019 4:22 pm

Planning on giving my car a good going over this weekend.

Quite happy with what I am going to do:

Tar
Iron
Clay
Sealant

...with washes in between some stages.

My question is this:

Which order do I do the iron and clay?

Do I do iron then clay in the theory i’ve removed as much as possible before clay, meaning it has less work to do, or do I do clay then iron in the theory that if i’ve got more crap off the paint then the iron will be more effective?

Obviously with the level of my skills it will probably make no difference at all, just wondering what the general concensous is....or is it such a silly question that no ones considered it before?

Thanks.

I haven’t got a polisher, but do have some old Megs polish that I can hand apply....is it worth doing that? I was going to go straight from clay to sealant (wash in between).

Ok, cricket: why do they cheat by rubbing their balls when they know they are on tv?

Do apply a polish, by hand if necessary. Bilt Hamber Cleanser Polish is great, or Megs. polish if that is what you have.

I get more concerned when the Aussies start picking bits off there balls. Makes them swing more apparently.

honestly a polish by hand is hard to actually effect any change - mostly it'l just act as a filler, which isn't always a bad thing.

Still worth doing by hand as it’ll just lightly freshen up the clear coat without really removing the swirls. It’ll still help the colour pop before you apply the sealant. An extra hour or so but well worth doing IMO

After decontaminating and claying, it is better than nothing. If you haven't got a polishing machine, do it by hand. You might feel 'alone' but it will stop the urges. :)

8 bloody hours!!!!!

Started at 10am and it was getting dark about 6pm, just managed to finish polishing (by hand) and then spraying some c2v3. Not happy that I had to finish, would've liked another hour really. Next weekend I'll probably do a wash and apply some more sealant. No pics as it was dark!

Blimin left hand side repeater keeps falling out..one of the brackets is snapped, so I've had to sellotape it in place! Seems like a good excuse to get some lci ones!!!

They twist in like a light bulb. Easy to replace and if your badges are good, just swap them over onto a new blank.
