How does this happen?

Post by AC5L4T3R » Fri May 18, 2018 9:23 pm

Went to my car today and noticed someone had dinged my rear arch, causing this weird nipple like bump just above the dent. Anyone seen this before?

Must be a reinforcement point behind, double skin, something like that. So when the panel was pushed in that stayed put and pushed out.

It looks like you’ve had something un tethered In the boot?

You can just see the crease on the edge that would have forced the wing in.

Your Zed needs a good squeeze, remember it's a teenager now and is starting to get spotty  .
That looks like an inside to outside dent when you 1st see it, but what srhutch has pointed out, makes it a bit weird.

Watch this video. It explains a little about internal structures causing external panel damage as well as shedding quite a lot of light on the art of PDR. https://youtu.be/hcIA2vi86bc

Pure skill indeed. How do you think that glue 'unsticks' itself ? Does it decay over a few minutes and peel off ? Be interested to know.

My take on that is that the glue has been applied to the surface with - at the time - a specific shape, and as you pull, the surface changes shape and the glue cannot keep its adhesion due to the new shape so pops off.

What blows me away is hitting the surface IN to pull OUT a dent.... Whaaaa?
