Squeaky roof, Gummi pfledge, Wind Deflector

Post by ihadablackdog » Wed Mar 28, 2018 9:03 pm

ok, so a little list of questions...

1. Wind Deflector - taken the wind deflector out (original BMW one) and noticed the plastic frame looks like it could do with a clean, its black but has lost its colour a bit. What works on hard plastic?

2. When the boot closes after opening or closing the roof, it makes quite a noise, as if its squeaking when compressing the seals or something. Is this common and will lubricating the seals help...see 3.

3. Bought some gummi pfledge after reading good things about it previously. I plan to go over the door seals, window rubbers, folding roof seals etc. Any application advice? Would this possibly help the noise when the boot lid closes as in 2.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Not sure what you can do with #1 to restore the colour :(
If you look in the picture you’ll see two flat round metal disc with notches in I found when the the boot closes from operating the roof the two rubber shock absorbers on the boot lid cause the squeaking noise, it took me ages to find out what caused it  but just a little gummi on them and quiet as a mouse 8)
And yes gummi pfledge will help all round just apply it from the bottle and leave it to soak in or just wipe over the seals lightly with a micro fibre cloth afterwards

Thank-you so much, that is very helpful. I'll look later tonight when I get home, but it sounds like you might have saved me a lot of time.

Hopefully I can give it a good wash this weekend. It'll be the first wash I've given it (only had it two weeks) and I always find a hand wash is the best way to see the exact condition of the paint.

E85 or E89?
I use Johnson baby wipes on all the plastic and leather in the Zed. Brilliant for getting grime off

If its a E89 wind deflector I used too soak mine in soapy water and give it a scrub with a soft brush,it was surprising how much crap came out of the mesh part !

You'd be amazed how well WD40 works to restore black plastic trim!

Its an e89. Wouldn't want to spray it, and would be afraid of breaking the mesh if I tried washing it.

Do the baby wipes or wd40 leave a greasy finish?

Used some Meguiars Quick Interior Detailer lightly rubbed onto the frame with a cloth and rubbed off. Did the trick without changing the finish.
