Top 5 BMW Carly mods

Hey guys,

I'm considering getting BMW Carly for my 2003 E85, but is it worth it?

What are your top 5 Carly mods you couldn't live without?

I just googled Carly reviews.. a whole load came up on Amazon & unless a whole host of people have got it in for the product, the reviews are awful

I have it. It's good for faults and basic coding.

Plenty of members on here with carly, could see about getting someone else to code in some stuff?
Doors lock when drive away
Indicate three times on push
Brake light fully on, not progressive
Angel eyes permanently on
I think that's all I coded in, I haven't had to use it for fault checking, not worth the money in my opinion

Has anyone else had problems since it was updated? I used to connect my 04 E85 via the Carly cable but now when I try I get a message saying it needs Bluetooth adapter. 4 emails in Carly support haven't even understood the question yet.

Don't understand all the fuss about Carly, why not just get a cheap BMW USB - OBD K + Dcan cable and the free NCS Expert, Inpa, Dis etc. software and use your laptop instead of paying a fortune for a subscription and their ODB connector.

As a user of both it’s horses for courses..Carly offers the option of instant roadside checks and twiddles without having to boot a windows pc and a less than benign user interface...on the other hand you can do more geeky things with the laptop option..

Carly protects the average user from doing most dumb things ...

They've modified it to "prefer" the wireless dongles, which for E85's and the like is a pain.. I think they have stopped selling the "genuine" wired interfaces too.

Also, it's now an annual subscription service, whereas it used to be a one off. However if you purchased before the cutoff date, you now get ALL of the "extras" that you previously had to pay for FOC.

Thanks. I bought it ages ago so, yes before the cut off date. I guess it's buy a BT adapter or bin it.

I bought Carly before the cutoff date after discovering I couldn’t get carsoft (which was pretty good with my old e36) to work with the e85

The WiFi dongle lives in my car and I found it easy to use for diagnosis and a few coding options

I recently had an airbag light after I pulled my door panel apart without disconnecting the battery. Carly identified the error but couldn’t clear it - I had to use inpa for that

So far I coded
- One touch passenger window
- Comfort open/close for windows and roof from the key
- visual & audio alerts for locking & unlocking
- full donut brake lights
Along with a few other things I can’t remember right now

I also used it to do a check on a car my gf was interested in - it can evaluate if any modules have been tampered with

DRL's
Visual alert (lights) for lock/unlock
Turned off chime for key in ignition when door open
3 flash indicator (perfect for exiting roundabouts)
Wipers finish cycle if ignition turned off

Have also used it to check a car I was interested in, and to help diagnose a coil pack fault on a workmate's E60.
It has more than paid for itself - I bought it before the subscription model was introduced.
I also have INPA/NCS dummies for more in depth stuff, but as Pbondar mentioned, Carly is a lot easier to use and works for 99% of the 'normal' things you'd want to code/diagnose.
