Short hop up to the Western Isles
Short hop up to the Western Isles
Just finishing a 4 day round trip to Isle of Lewis and Isle of Harris for my wife to see a possible equine purchase.
Coincided with the first days in Scotland where you can stay overnight away from home.
800 miles of driving..save a rattle, now hopefully fixed all fault free.
The A9 to Inverness was choked with traffic but everywhere else was almost deserted..
Rest of the roads varied from good to fab
COVID tests required to get onto the Islands.
A mixture of sunshine and showers..
First serious road trip since January 2020...great to be back in the saddle.
Met up with Martin Palmer for a quick lunch up in Lewis too..thnx for picking the lunch tab up

Rob, apart from some irritating interior trim rattles (which normally with my mega audio cranked up I wouldn’t hear) but with SWMBO wanting ‘peace n quiet’ after 500 miles of charging along (most unreasonable)it’s going really well...
Not sure if the GY Asy 5 are the absolute best match for the E89, still love my Contis, but yes brakes really good, new 200 cell cat great compromise, Bilstein B8 dampers coping well with the bumps..the big turbo does very well..so yes not bad as a drop head tourer

Nice trip Peter, we are heading over to Skye and maybe Harris after the Mull of Kintyre run next week. Hoping for some of that nice weather

Skye was a pleasant change from recent history....not knee deep in motor homes / coaches plus many roads have been resurfaced..better to go sooner than later it was already starting to fill up..thoroughly recommend the hotel we stayed at...the best I’ve been at on Skye so far..jamesditchy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 5:13 pm Nice trip Peter, we are heading over to Skye and maybe Harris after the Mull of Kintyre run next week. Harris was almost as deserted as the moon..some fabulous high speed driving assuming you have motocross suspension..not sure how the E85s will cope..bottomed out a few times there and damaged my liners a bit there..never bottomed out anywhere else..
The ferry from Uig to Tarbert on Harris is much better IMHO than the Ullapool to Stornaway route on Lewis ..shorter and not as exposed... useful if you are not a good sailor..

Best to avoid the choke points caused by either the Central Belt (Edinburgh n Glasgow) traffic or English mass migrations..
