My First ‘Proper’ Road Trip
I did my first ‘proper’ road trip last year down to the Alps and it was great, you’ll love it .... even in a coupe
I’m thinking about going again next year but this time on my bike

My First ‘Proper’ Road Trip
The Route De Grande Alps does seem popular with bikers. Thought about it myself, but as a proper MTBer I don’t enjoy roads riding...roads are meant for cars.

I quite agree Dan, pedal bikes should stick to off road. I was talking about a ‘proper’ bike, one with an engine, but being a coupe driver I guess you can’t appreciate the thrill of cutting through the wind

Oh, you mean bikes with engines, so basically cheating I actually prefer 'cutting through the wind' flying down a mountain on the edge of control...no bigger rush!!Pastry wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 12:06 pmI quite agree Dan, pedal bikes should stick to off road. My First ‘Proper’ Road Trip
I've had a look at the Susten pass and unfortunately I'm not going close enough to do it. If this one goes well, I might be able to negotiate a Swiss / Italy trip in a couple of years.ph001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:54 am Just come back from similar except we did 9 countries all the way to Hungary and back. We only had 2 weeks so was a bit too much driving and not enough chilling...and we had a 5yr old in tow so had to do it in a Renault Espace !
I've previously done lots of the mountain passes in a S54 Z3M but one I never did was the Susten pass and OMG!!! If you have to choose one alpine pass to do....MAKE IT THIS ONE! Just incredible and puts all the other ones to shame imho. Definitely forget Stelvio etc.
Also, have you looked at the Euro tunnel instead of the ferry. Was half the price for us and only takes 20mins (once you have finished messing around with all the customs / car park queuing etc).
We did think about the Euro tunnel but quite enjoy the ferry...time to relax and have some food.

Sounds like a great trip. Heading south from Reims I can recommend going through the Haut Jura. Beautiful scenery, great roads & very quiet too. The area around Chateau-Chalon is lovely for a stop-over.

Sounds like a cracking trip!
If you can, try and plan your routes so that you can avoid toll roads, there are quite a few in France.
I also visited Circuit du Reims earlier this year as a part of my Germany road trip. From memory Pommery Champagne is based in Reims and should be worth checking out.
What I will say is that you will never really appreciate these cars until you take them for a ‘proper’ road trip as you put it.
Good luck buddy

Did the Vercors by motorcyle in 2016, very spectacular in places!
Col de la machine will take you to some epic views and great photo opportunities.
I can recommend a hotel for the run in to the Vercors if you need one.
