I'm doing a road trip in the Z3 this August - from SE London to the home of an old friend in Eaglesham, Scotland.
Decided to stop off in the Lakes for two nights camping and staying near Witherslack, but looking for a good route through and up towards Glasgow when I start part two of my journey.
Incidentally, I'm going to blitz it home in one shot on the return journey, so any advice on easy routes home also gratefully received. My guess is A1 or M6 as standard issue responses.

Witherslack leaves you perfectly set up to go around Coniston via Newby Bridge - Lowick , its a great road , skirts the Langdales & leaves you the option of main road North from Ambleside via the A591 past Helvellyn or over Hartsop on the back roads ( take Troutbeck sign between Ambleside & Windermere) .
Both take you a scenic route back onto the M6
& should you wish to take in the delights of the Ribble valley & Bowland fells on route through Lancashire id be happy to lead you

I would head up to the Duddon Valley that then takes you over Hard knot/Wrynose pass then down into Ambleside then carry on as Mr Wilks said

In a busy August i doubt there would be much clutch left & handbrake cable would be stretched to the max

This way you join it in the middle at Cockley Beck so he'd only be going down and avoiding going up Hardnotmr wilks wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 8:44 pm& whilst mega scenic & i did enjoy it i wouldn't ever go over Hardknot pass again not in my own car anyway its just about ok for a mountain goatmetal licker wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 8:41 pm I would head up to the Duddon Valley that then takes you over Hard knot/Wrynose pass then down into Ambleside then carry on as Mr Wilks said

August n the the Lakes? Hum Not an ideal time to go driving there. Hardknott is still the best pass. Certainly better going up the west side and avoid Kendall and Ambleside unless you are feeling really touristy?
