Thanks Buckley, I was considering but I'd prefer a more upright style like the M performance or type R knob. If you are doing this all again next time in a different style then I'm in!

Just a quick kwestchun Buckley.... I know you're going to send me the STEP file over to take a look at but have you sorted the mounting hole details/internals out within your 3D model and subsequent machining requirements including fit tolerances etc? Are you replicating the BMW design or are you planning a retaining hex screw and hole as per the Stormwerks design?

I was going to put 3 grub screws in through the bottom.
The hole it 14.00 mm and the shaft is 13.95.

Its hard to measure but i will to a tester hole in some scrap material to test the fit first.

304 free machining stainless steel.
I work for a plastics company so I don't have much stainless kicking about. I have some 40mm off cuts I can set it up from though.

What I find is that stormwerks is just a retail business run by a single person from a residential address with no manufacturing capability. Said person has been director of lots of small businesses including a restaurant, second hand car dealer and an "investment" company where lots of directors were appointed and resigned on the same day, don't know what that is about? Also director of another company which has the same address of evolve automotive, which is just a retailer of tuning parts.
This would suggest to me that the knobs are subcontracted to a general jobbing engineering company, or just bought off the shelf. Considering the price and the cost of the packaging this would most likely be in China or India. Makes me wonder just what testing and developing has actually been done? None I suspect.

Well done Davz. Sadly this is so often the case. Quite dissolutioning to those who felt that their purchased products had a credible development heritage.

I think we're all of the understanding by now that Stormwerks has, like most retail businesses employed a 'colourful' approach to marketing. And why not indeed? It's all about selling a product at the end of the day! Some people are obviously going to be taken in and impressed by the various claims they make re. R&D.

The more shrewd amongst us will see through it and base a purchase decision on common sense, personal value and perceived return on investment....or not

I'm sure Buckley's knob will undergo the most rigorous and intensive R&D and subsequent product development phase leading to an outrageously successful market release!
