2003 Z4 fuel pump replacement

I need help with the fuel pump replacement on a 2003 Z4.
I have searched (seemingly) everywhere and cannot find any information regarding how to access the fuel pump. The bits and pieces I have found indicate that the tank needs to be dropped and some comments claim that there is an easy access (not requiring tank removal).
I am willing to pay for a manual however there doesn't seem to be anything available that is specific to this issue.
Any help will be appreciated.

I have heard the tank needs to be dropped just to change the fuel filter so I can't imagine it's any easier to remove the pump :(
Are you sure it's the pump?
Regards

you dont have to drop the tank but you have to drain the tank, drop the exhaust and do it from underneath.

Smartbear,
thank you for replying. I too heard (and / or read) that the tank needed to be dropped as well as many other contortions that are required to replace a fuel pump on the Z4. To further confuse matters, I read and heard that there was a nifty access panel behing the passenger seat. As it turns out...the access thing was true of the Z3 but probably not the Z4.

I was very surprised at the effort that I have put into finding this information but it seems like I may have it now.

If you need to know, look at GuidoK's post, it seems to be accurate.

GuidoK,

thank you for your response. It appears that you were able to tell me what even a couple of BMW mechanics couldn't (or wouldn't).

Apparently I just wasted a lot of time, money and effort on a fuel pump replacement because it didn't fix the problem. Getting SO frustrated trying to find information but right now I'm thinking that it may be the fuel pump relay.
Any help in diagnosing and / or (temporarily bypassing) relay would be appreciated.

Did you ever find the relay, I am having an issue too. The car runs for 10 seconds then stalls. I'm trying to not have to enter the tank to change wanted to try relay first. Not sure if it's location.

You don’t need to drop the fuel tank…. But it’s a two piece fuel pump the pump and the sending fuel level are made in two parts and can be serviced under the car …. But I was on here to see if e85 has a Stupid fuel pump module…. Some newer BMWs have the stupid module … if the module over heat it will not make the fuel pump come on… the module are in the trunk passenger side … there is a panel..Does even one know if the 2004 05 06 z4 have the fuel pump module…..

Ok so I changed the fuel pump and the filter sending unit. Had to replace the aluminum ring old one way to rusted had to reuse this plastic insert that held the filter and pump in place. Does anyone know what it is called couldn't find anywhere. Even the parts guy at BMW was stumped.

That white ring should stay on the collar of the fuel tank when you remove the metal lock ring. I didn't remove it when I changed my filter/pressure regulator last year. It doesn't show on the Real.OEM fuel tank diagram so it must come with/be part of the fuel tank itself :( https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=16_0537
