Homelink Garage door buttons...

Post by inTgr8r » Sun Feb 10, 2008 8:16 pm

With thanks to DaveZ & dwabmw on one of the other Z forums for the idea;
I finally got around to doing this mod for myself.
I've always hated the lack of garage door buttons & really didn't like the separate remotes.
The HL module came from e-bay ~$40.
...something like this one

I didn't use the original trim piece though, just cut the lower dash panel for the buttons & led.

On the back, I used a couple of layers of the 3M double sided trim tape to get the spacing right.

That's a great idea! I assume that you can hook it up to an unswitched 12V source, but I see 4 wires in your photo (2 black and 2 white)?

Yes, just 12v source.
It a push down connector, so it just looks like 2+2
Those wires came off when I did the proper harness.

Looks good, is that the panel below the climate control then? Can you see the buttons?

Correct....
Unless you know they're there, you don't see them.
& they're easy to operate by feel.
I have a three door garage so the 3 buttons come in handy.

3 door garage :)

Here in the UK they build the garages so tight that I can hardly fit my car inside. Only one person on my street actually uses their garage for their car, usually it's to store junk in.
