how to replace a fog light unit?

Post by doddel » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:31 am

hi,

the right front fog light was damaged by a stone. I will pick up a new one from ebay. Is it a difficult job to replace this unit? Any hints?

thanks!

Replacement is done by working from the inside of the wheel arch. You can remove the flap to give you access.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

so just jack up the right front wheel, put it on an axle stand, and work from the inside of the bumper/wheel arche?

Yep. You may find it easier to remove the wheel, but it is not required as such. You can reach all the parts from inside.

I had to replace one of mine a couple of months ago - similar story got back from a great day out and found a hole in the glass dead centre of the NS fog light :( I picked up a replacement off eBay for about £20 - bargain :D I think there are a couple for the pre- face lift on ebay at the moment.

Replacement is very simple through the access panel in the wheel arch liner. 3 posidrive screws and the bulb connection. Should take about 1/2 hour all in.

I did jack up the front corner and remove the wheel for better access.

Ian.
