Yep definitely.. but I don't think it's a case of - if fault, display warning, disable system.

It might do that with the passenger i think, but not driver's.

Yep; it's not there. I bought it in Belgium and it was a cost option which I didn't take at the time.

Thanks awfully guys, you're brilliant.

I didn't mean a forward-facing car seat, by the way, but a maxi-cosi type rear-looking seat that locks into a base.

Hi - I have a very similar problem. I want to retrofit the pax airbag override and/or turn off the pax airbag so I can take my 3 year old to school in the car. The above answers are comprehensive, but when I follow the link to the bmwfans site, I see that the retrofit kit won't fit my model Z4 (a 2003 E85 3.0i M54). Is there another kit for my car? Or another solution?

All help gratefully accepted!

Retrofitting Passenger Airbag Switch

Post by CoupeChief » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:05 am

I had same issue an BMW dealer wouldn't retrofit it as it was a safety critical system.

I was under the impression that forward facing seats were fine - it's only rear facing seats where there is an issue? Can anyone confirm?

Just found this thread from some time ago... I've found the P/N for this retrofit - 61 31 0 411 229. Realoem seems to state that this is for 2004 on cars. Has anyone done this retrofit successfully on a 2003 3.0i? Is anything else required?
