Goodbye for now (New Arrival 3.0si Coupe)

Post by bmbardo » Sat May 27, 2017 9:27 am

Edit...

Well, true to form the Z4C didn’t last long, what a fantastic car and in my opinion in the best colour Alpine White.

I moved on to an E92 M3 in Individual spec, so ticked a box in my car ownership history, but I found it dull. In daily driving it could have been any engine, great in a way, but lacking the fun element completely and not a patch on the Z4C or the M135i for driver involvement. It was awesome above 4K revs, but the fun was quickly over to avoid losing the license. It was though one of my best deals, as I sold it to a BMW dealer for a profit.

Anyway, for something different I’ve got an Abarth 124 Spider. Superb car, love it, great fun with LSD and punchy engine that brings back the smile. Exhaust note is incredible, even though at my age I should be more sensible!

I’ll keep watching and I will be buying another Z4, possibly an M, Coupe or Roadster.

Love reading all the posts, have a great 2018 everyone! For now, here is a photo of the Abarth.

After much thought I've sold my year old M135i and bought myself a beautiful Z4 Coupe. A really hard decision, because the M135i is simply the best all round car I've ever owned. You'll see below that I've had a few!

I toyed with the notion of getting a Z4M, but after the M135i there was really no need. The 3.0si is more than quick enough for real world driving.

The car was delivered on Wednesday by Broad Oak, Ashford. Didn't envy the driver, took him 6 hours to get to me in Cheshire. Dealer was superb and realistic in doing the deal, in complete contrast to Sytner who I was also dealing with. The value of the coupes is very subjective, as it differs so much from trade. Some though would have you believe you are buying the rarest car on the planet!

Car was bought over the phone / internet and as described. A couple of bits that they will hopefully have dealt with locally for me. It's an approved used car, so that gave me some reassurance on the mechanicals, but bodywork is always a concern, thankfully not on this occasion. My neighbour, who drives a 3 Convertible, thought it was a brand new BMW model. Funny, but it obviously looks well.

Mine is a 57 plate manual SI in Alpine White, which I believe is quite a rare colour? Everything I need and nothing I don't, so that's BT and the lovely and pristine 108's. The essential Aux Input is present.

I spent Thursday pampering her, interrupted on numerous occasions by neighbours, the postman and passers by, all wanting to know about the car. I love it, but I'm really surprised by the attention. On my first drive other BMW drivers were proper head-turning.

First impressions. Really pleased I chose a manual, nice contrast to my F15 X5. A little notchy at first but quickly got used to that. Sweet straight six pulling right to the line. Dealer had put on brand new RFT's so I'll see how I get on with them. I've had them on my last few new beemers and they've been absolutely fine. I'm not certain these will be, although I don't believe normal tyres would make a huge difference to the crashy suspension. I was expecting that, so not concerned. It's more the tramlining, I noticed at speed that she wandered a little.

I'll leave it there for now, but see how many of my past cars you can tick off.

Ford Cortina (my first car)
Seat Ibiza Brio x 2 (system Porsche haha)
Rover 216 Vitesse
Rover 825 (saloon & fastback)
Fiat Uno Turbo i.e. (great car)
VW Golf x 2
Peugeot 306
Ford Scorpion (for one day and engine blew up)
Honda Legend Coupe
E21 323i Auto
E30 325i
Volvo S90 (don't laugh, great first family car and a guy came in a taxi from Bristol to buy it at £1k profit after a year of ownership)
Renault Laguna (why, just awful)
VW Passat
E39 525d M Sport (brilliant car)
Alfa 159 SW
E61 525i
Honda Accord Type S
E38 740i M Sport Individual (loved it)
E39 530d M Sport
Mercedes E Class Saloon (rust bucket at 4 years)
Nissan Patrol (amazing car / tank)
Nissan Navara
Mercedes E Class AMG (new shape)
F11 520d M Sport
M135i
F15 X5 (current)

Some photos attached, including X5 and M135i for variety!

Finally, thanks to all, I've found the forum really helpful & interesting.

Welcome !
In addition to my Z4C I also have my E30 325iA convertible, and my E46 - I'm surprised you haven't had at least one E46 along the way !

Thanks firebobby, I like the banter between the Convertible & Coupe owners. Maintaining the hood on my wife's Beetle was a nightmare and put me off getting a soft top. Mind you, she did have a cream roof!

Fiat Uno and Nissan Patrol, purely for rarity. The E38 was fantastic, in Avus Blue with white leather, I loved looking after her.

Cheers Nick.

I did nearly buy an E46, but I dithered and it was sold. They also had the E39 and I bought that instead.

Biased in know, but nothing compares to a BMW. My wife hated them, and their drivers, but now understands what it's all about.

We have a 3.0 Nissan Terrano, which we use for towing duties mainly, it's a great all round vehicle and amazing off road and in the snow.
Agree about the Uno turbo as an investment, the soft tops are pretty sturdy, just love going topless :)

Cheers Pastry, I'm guessing that the Coupe owners are well outnumbered on here!

It's raining now, tops back on, summer is over.

Hi and welcome.

Whilst a committed fan of black cars (only black for last 20 years) and a committed Roadster fan, I do like white coupes, so that must have softened the move from the m135. And it has a proper aerial :)

Enjoy :driving:
///M Roadster. 2007 Black/Black. Rear spoiler, whippy aerial, mud flaps and gimp-style wind deflector! :)

Thanks Rick.

Same here generally with the black cars. I'm not planning any mods, so the aerial will be staying.

I do like the rear end view of the roadster, yours looks great. I was very tempted by a Z4M at Halliwell Jones, but too expensive for my requirements.

Welcome to the forum. It's very addictive but fills a gap when we can't be out driving :)

At least we can look at pictures of other coupes, sorry Zeds

Nice looking Coupe - the best choice in my opinion...the lines of the roof make it look so special.

I see you've still got the whippy on...switch it to a stubby just to finish it off! ;)
