New member, Z4M Coupe 2006

Post by Argenta » Sat May 02, 2015 6:44 pm

I suppose I should introduce myself, I'm Per from Gothenburg, Sweden and I just got me one of 38 swedish-sold Z4M Coupe's in interlagos blue, 2006. It's pretty std apart from repainted std rims in antracite grey, and upgraded brakes (Performance Friction disc's, pads unknown).

Pics here: http://www.garaget.org/?car=371169

I probably wouldn't have bought this car had not my garage burnt down completely in December.
Lost this Fiat Coupe in the fire: http://www.garaget.org/?car=1476 and also a nice Fiat 125 '72.

Compared to a finetuned Fiat Coupe obviously a Z4M has its shortcomings in both pace, noice, economy, practicality and comfort - but does it look great! Another Bangle car of course, and a sweet solid RWD drivetrain I hope to get more friends with once all mods are done.
Did a lot of Spa-Nürburgring trips in the Fiat and hope to continue these in the Z4M! :)

I was going to get a BMW 118d M (4 door) 2010-2011 as a new wintercar but with the fire it was a Z4 instead, which I've been a fan of since it came out in 2006.

So, now I keep a garage of one Beemer and 2 Fiats:

http://www.garaget.org/?car=108840 Fiat Punto (VERY low maintance winter car)

Shortcomings in pace? Are you crazy man? The only pace shortcoming is that the fiat is likely to go flying off a mountain top quicker than your BMW would.....

Get a grip on reality and look back on this day and say your thanks for the fire :driving:

Nice intro Per  i'm 47 & had a wide variety of performance cars & can't say the Fiat has ever factored on my want or "to do" list .
Glad you enjoyed yours & sorry it ended like it did , why not buy another?

Hi and welcome. Nice looking car.

Sad end to the Fiat - I didn't realise that they are bonkers fast. The Z4M is hardly slow!

Enjoy :driving:

Thanx! They can take a lot of tune, the 5-cyl is mega strong. I had a mapped (FC Performance UK) Garrett GT28R with around 340-350hp (with massive torque) and the car weighs 150kg's less. Then again the S54 powerband of course hides it's performance somewhat. I could buy another Coupe Fiat but the prospect of another 12years developing is too much. It was very fun to kill off AMG's and Porc's on the track tho it did not make me any more friends. :)

Thanx, yes its great!
Tan leather interior would've been sweet but who knows what future breaker I may run into! Suppose it's not a big job swapping seats/doortrim.
I do like the fact it's without heavy stuff like 'old' OEM satnav or electric seats. As a swedish car it does have heated seats tho. :)

Not sure about the color code, it's by the previous owner!

Welcome from an ex Fiat Coupe owner also. That was a great car and if money was no object then I'd have an LE version in Crono grey in my never ending garage :driving:

Welcome. I suspect you'll find that you can easily beat your previous 'ring time once you're used to the Zed. There are a few suspension modifications that you can do that will make the Zed much faster around a track without needing to chase more power (which is very expensive for the S54). I've set mine up for track use and it's absolutely awesome although it's somewhat uncomfortable on the road now.

Thank you, yes while it doesn't have the straight line pace the Fiat had, it surely corners better already.

However I noticed some (surprising) understeer tendencies - what would you consider doing as a first step? I don't want to start as hardcore as coilovers right away, maybe something simpler?

Hello and welcome Per, nice looking Zed

I like the old Fiat Coupe - wanted but never managed to get a 20v Turbo many years ago :x
