BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
Hello everyone
I am considering purchasing a BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster in black and would appreciate some advice from anyone who is prepared to share.
Please excuse my ignorance but I have limited knowledge in this field.
This model Z4 is for sale at a local dealer for £7500 on a 2006 plate with 48.5k miles. Bodywork condition is stunning apart from a couple of stone chips on the bonnet. The hood motor has been replaced recently also. He is also offering 12 months warranty, and MOT plus oil and filter service.
Have seen similar nationally with around 78-97k miles for around 5.8k. Would 7k be a reasonable deal for an immaculate car with this low mileage?
Cheers hope to hang around!

Re: BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
Best advice would be to not bother with a 2.0,they are the most troublesome of the Z4 family.
Go for a 3.0 ,you won't regret it.

X2 one the problem front, though any 6cyl model would be better, even a 2.5.maxman wrote:Best advice would be to not bother with a 2.0,they are the most troublesome of the Z4 family.

Re: BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
I have owned a 2.0 ltr for a year and put 10,000 miles on it. The problems I have had with it have been nothing to do with the engine, just the usual poor quality zed build:
Rear springs
ABS unit
Condensation in foglights
The 2.0 ltr is no slouch and warms up quickly for shorter journeys, which is what I tend to do. Go test drive.

Many thanks for the replies....much appreciated.
Clearly more to consider than I first anticipated. Will be having a test drive when I finish work later this week.
Thanks again.

Re: BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
See if you like the 2.0 SE. I did. Personally I like the four cylinder engine, and I have the 3.0 in a five series which I find a bit cumbersome so I am neither deprived nor inexperienced in their differences. If you are into acceleration I suggest that a motorcycle will win the value for money competition. I think the 2.0 with moderate sized wheels on SE suspension is very cheering to drive on summer Sunday lanes. Roof down, pootling through the local woodlands, it takes some beating. And it corners tidily.

Cheers Finisterre
This is going to be a surprise car for the mrs as our teenage son has basically 'acquired' her car on a permanent basis.
I will of course be having a go myself along those country lanes you mention!

It sounds very similar to ours. Well, my partner's. Who is very fond of her toy. I think it an excellent prezzie. I hope your Mrs loves it.
If I was buying all over again I wouldn't be so worried about finding a low mileage car. One that had been looked after is all I would be concerned about. Full BMWSH gives you some backup from BMWUK who can be very helpful if their cars have been exclusively and officially maintained.
Get rid of the runflat tyres ASAP. The EU is introducing a noise rating for tyres. Being able to hear birdsong while pootling roof down in the woods is a real bonus. I would be wanting quiet above any other criteria.
Good luck.

Re: BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
I had a 2.0i Sport and it is a very undervalued Zed - very capable and with enough power to have fun on back roads. You still have the looks and the fuel economy is a third better than the 6 cylinder Zeds. The engine is smooth (a little lumpy at tickover is usual) and free revving and mine came back for more day after day. the handling is as good as all other Zeds on the road.
The engines do have issues with warning lights due to over sensitive sensors I believe and these can take some sorting out. The exhaust manifold can crack or split on early 2.0 litres but my independent specialist told me he would remove it and have it welded if it ever happened - it didn't in the year I had this Zed.
At your price point all Zeds are available - you should be able to find a cherished 3.0i, excellent 2.5si and the 2.2, even an early high mileage 3.0si might be possible. Tyre costs are the same if the Zed has staggered wheels and the SE version rides softer than the Sport.
You may be able to get an Authorised Used Car 2006 2.0 litre with a years warranty for the money being asked so do check whats available - there are lots of 2.0 litres around.
Good luck with your search.

Had our 2.0 sport for 18 months road trips to Snowdonia and Cornwall can't fault it,it may not be as quick the 3lt. But takes a thoroughly rewarding thrashing

Re: BMW Z4 2.0 SE Roadster
Don't be put off by the 2.0 ltr, I've had mine 2 1/2 years now, apart from a broken spring and the occasional engine management light here n there, its been no problem at all. Try one you will love it!
