Hi From Hampshire.
A quick hello from a new member in Hampshire.
After parting with my G30 5 series earlier in the year due to lack of use I've been looking around for something a bit more interesting to drive on sunny days and to spend more time cleaning than driving (according my wife ). After mulling over the merits of a Boxter against an E89 Z4 the Z4's come out on top, primarily on account of my son-in-law working as a mechanic in a local BMW main dealer who will maintain it for me, you get more Z4 for your money, and I just like the look of the E89 over the boxter.
I took a 2010 2.3i out for a run last week and was re-assured that the Z4 fits the bill. What I'm not decided upon is the exact model. With a budget of 16k I was originally going to look for a 2013 or newer lowish mileage well spec'd 2.8i with an auto box. But I'm swaying toward a 2.0i which I'll get re-mapped as I'm hoping to get something a little newer for my money. Am I correct in thinking that 2013 models had Xenon lights? I'm going to be moving to a very rural area fairly soon so good headlights will be A must.
I'm not in a great hurry so I'll just enjoy looking until the right one comes along. All advice and experiences will be welcomed
Cheers
Ian

Hi From Hampshire.
I can’t speak for the E89 as I have an E86. The xenons aren’t the greatest, but they are a lot better than halogens. You will definitely be needing them around the rural Hampshire lanes.
Good luck with the search. There have been some really well priced E89s on here recently, although second hand car prices seem to be on the rise at the moment.

Hi From Hampshire.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.
I think all LCI (March 2013) Z4's had LED headlights, but I expect someone more knowledgeable than me will come a long and confirm one way or the other.
Mine has the LEDs - I regularly drive down country lanes at night and they work very well. There would definitely be fewer bunnies in Suffolk if I had rubbish halogen lights.

Hi From Hampshire.
Welcome to the forum. Great that you choose the Z4 over a Boxster. You get a front and a rear that you can tell apart into the bargain.

Hi From Hampshire.
Hi & welcome,
You’ll get a load of help spending your money here
One thread ran to about 30 pages before he finally picked up his Zed & with your budget there probably won’t be much you can’t get
I’d recommend creating your list of wants & starting there:
Mileage range, iDrive, Sat Nav, Heated Seats, Colour (exterior & interior), folding mirrors etc etc all written down & then hit up autotrader & see if anyone here is selling what your looking for
Keep an eye on the e89 market watch thread, sometimes cars that are overpriced are discussed, sometimes it ones that are underpriced sometimes it’s ones that just don’t look right or are too good to be true but you’ll get a barometer of the market
Also if you see one & are not sure then link it in this thread & people are usually good at offering an unbiased opinion
Good luck with the search

Hi From Hampshire.
Hi and welcome.
I am pretty sure all E89s (2009-2016) had bi-Xenons. The pre LCI, or facelift in common parlence, had halogen angel eyes, or DRLs, the facelifts had LED. The facelift was early 2013. Easy way to tell a facelift car is by the side repeater indicators, pre LCI cars had a 'blob', LCIs had an 'arrow' type, so larger and more pronounced.
With a £16k budget you should get any 23 or a really good 2.0L. The 28i does have larger brakes than the other 20 models, but that's about the only difference apart from the engine map. If you are looking at a re-map you will instantly get more power and torque than a 28i on either of the other models.
Good luck and as said previously, people on here will be only too willing to help you spend your money, and often try and persuade you to spend more

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Hi From Hampshire.
Hello and welcome and congrats on wise choice of car
£16k is a great budget to start with and you seem to have been doing some reading as well, the 20i is more readily available and can be remapped to the same power as a 28i and as such will get more toys for your money.
23i are great value but with £16k, I would be looking for a 30i, which has the same running costs as the 23i, in fact I would assume you could find a decent 35i not iS for that money.
As PointedMarlin has said list you colour / spec / must have / nice to haves and I am sure we will point out a few suitable cars
Good luck with the search
