Z4 E85 2006 3.0SI with M Sports Suspension - Koni vs Bilstein

Post by HJBondar » Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:11 pm

Hi all - I just picked this car up yesterday knowing it needs new struts and shocks. My wife will be the 50% driver so I am looking for a suspension refresh that offer the most compliant possible rise given the nature of it having the M Sport set-up.

Aside from OEM's which are not candidates, the only two options I have found are Bilstein B6's and Koni Sports(yellow). The input I have received is that the Koni Sports, being adjustable, can be dialed in to be a bit softer than the non-adjustable Bilstein's.

Does anyone have experience and/or feedback on this?

Much appreciated - Z4 newbie:)

Hello if it’s a 2006 car then it can only an E85 or E86?

Which model as ride height (AFAIK) varies by model?

Would help folks if you describe your current or intended wheel/tyre combo as well?

I can’t comment on the bilstein shocks but I have koni shocks all round with eibach springs and have found them to be excellent. On a recent run out with some other forum members I went down a country road I’d normally avoid as it’s very bumpy. The car rode so much better than any of my previous zeds,I was very impressed.

Thinking H&S progressive springs with Koni Sports? Could be convinced to go Bilstein or to another spring?

Dave - can you tell me which Eibach springs you have and whether your Z came with the Msport suspension or not? Thx - Harvey

Sachs non-m sport springs and B4 shocks is an option.

Or get coilovers, set high and soft.
