New to forum greetings

Post by jenniferlouise » Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:36 pm

Evening all… great to be involved here; looking forward to learning more about our car, share some stories and get along to any events. Member of Abarth Owners Club too, although currently don’t own one (had 3), and have carried over the user name (which references my gorgeous wife).

Have bought a 2010 Z4 23i auto. Loving it. Lots of options on it already. First jobs are a Quantum remap and will be looking on here for a BMW Performance (or similar) brake upgrade option. I believe a 2-series kit is a ‘plug & play’ option?

Anyway, will add some images in good time. The car has had a two coat wax and seal this week and, after a sunny Sunday ride out today :driving: it’s back under cover in the garage.

Hello and welcome to the forum, nice car and pics are a must as I am sure a few others will mention

Why do you want a remap?

Hi and welcome to the forum Andy & Jennifer Louise.

It looks like you already know we like to see photos of new members' cars!

Remap has already been mentioned - it won't add significant power, although from what some have said it may improve drivability.

In terms of brake upgrades I think the 30i had bigger front brakes, and the 35i and 35is probably had something better still.

Good to hear you are loving it anyway. :driving:

Hello and welcome to both of you.

The Quantum remap seems to improves the drivability and low down pull. I was thinking about getting one but sold the car shortly after so didn’t bother

Thanks for all the welcomes. Pictures will follow in due course… it’s currently under a bright red Richbrook dust cover (highly recommended). The remap option, to answer the question, is simply to improve the liveliness… I was recommended a 6 cylinder over a newer 4 pot (several National journos promoting the 2.5ltr) but conscious that, with it being naturally aspirated, it’s only punching 200ps and the map will give 225, which places it just above JLs Cooper S  My previous 6 cylinder was an e46 M3, so a bit more grunt is welcome. I was tempted back to an M3 but a) they are fetching strong money and b) I’ve had one, oh and c) I love the look of the Z4; never owned a true two-seater. I’ll let you know how the Quantum install goes… it’s booked for Thursday! A

PS I will add some pictures and better responses as I learn this forum functions, as it’s a little different to the AOC one I am more used to  I’m also ageing now so any new technology is a challenge and may require my kids’ intervention!

Hi, it’ll be interesting to see the rolling road print out of that size increase

I had a remap on my 2007 2.5i, (Non Si so no three stage inlet manifold like yours unfortunately :( , but otherwise the same N52b25 engine) expect maybe 5-7% BHP realistically, but does add a noticeable amount of lower down torque which in reality is just as useful for driving on the roads. Not sure what gains can be expected when coupled with an intake and sports cats? Although there are those on here who have done it. For around £200.00 I think its worth doing personally

Morning Flimper, thanks for the welcome. What Abarth do you have? JL has owned three: a black 595C Turismo, a blue 595C Turismo and a 695C XSR. We’ve loved them all and there is a great community, ably led by Bertie, Colin Rear and @StefABTV . The AOC National meet is soon at Shuttleworth, Beds and was considering a run out… not sure how they’d take to a Z4 :D

Just to prove I owned an Abarth  I think I’ve managed to load my first three pics: one of the XSR, together with a shot of the Brembo upgrade kit I had added (the XSR, despite being 695, came with standard brakes. Hence you’ll see my need to improve the Z4 appearance ) and one of the earlier Turismo, complete with boot rack (a great addition for holidays (and aesthetics) imported from The Netherlands.

I’ve only got some rather poor pics of my Z4 so far but May brave showing them if the forum respects they remain a work in progress…

…so here’s my first few ‘snaps’, taken after first wash. I will add more once I get a bit of time. It’s metallic black with the ivory ‘optional extra’ leather, lovely 19” M Sport five spokes that have been refurbished slightly darker. Still running on Bridgestones RFT all round.

JL and my mother suitably posing (unwillingly) in the second pic you may as well meet the rest of the family then… My boy runs shotgun in the Z4 (here seen supervising from the rear of Clubman, with seatbelt I hasten to add); Bastian the corgi has his own Instagram account (courtesy of JL) so feel free to go find him and follow.

Just the standard 135hp 500 at the moment, but looking to upgrade. Have driven a Turismo, Trofeo & Competitzione and like bits of each. Cant decide!
