Can I hang out here and avoid political ideological and fanatic discussion?

Post by Kiwi_Mike » Thu Jun 03, 2021 1:11 pm

Hi.

New member. I’m a kiwi living in NZ but spent 20 years (‘96 to ‘16) living in London and traveling a lot. Married to an amazing Spaniard and obsessed father of two.

First time Z4 owner with a ‘10 e89 35i which I collected today. Imported from Japan with a hard drive full of Japanese heavy metal music and a seat memory that crushes me against the steering wheel. Love that my car has also traveled and experienced different cultures.

I also have a ‘17 X5 30D as a daily drive (love it) and am an ex biker/tourer (owned a number of GSA1200’s) and before that was a Fiat Coupe 24v Turbo owner.

I had a mate who back in ‘09 purchased one of the first e89 35i’s. It was very similar to mine but was a proper manual and had the lovely red leather. We did a number of European road trips in it which usually consisted of him driving whilst I controlled the stereo and drank local beer in the passenger seat. These memories were what drove me to get myself a Z4.

Anyway, hope to get to know some of you as I explore the world of Z4 ownership. I’ve got a few questions and are keen to replace/upgrade a few parts so watch out for my posts in the e89 sections.

Cheers,
Mike

Question: "Can I hang out here and avoid political ideological and fanatic discussion?"

Its up to you.. it can be fairly political at times, and fanatical, but you have to accept the rough with the smooth. Enjoy the new car. Full marks for posting a picture too!

Welcome aboard.
I'd say with careful reading of titles you'll soon get an idea how to avoid the political & ideological threads (though some do change pretty rapidly!)
Fanatic? Less chance of avoiding that as the majority of members are fanatics of one sort or another. :D

PS. Don't mention the pandemic. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

Hello and welcome. Why an ‘ex biker/tourer’? I’m sure the roads and scenery in NZ must be great on a bike?

Hello and welcome. I didn't understand a word of your thread title but hey-ho
It's a very good natured forum and there are (surprisingly) very few arguments :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Hi and welcome to the forum - your car looks fantastic in that colour combination.

As others have already said "The Lounge" is best avoided, especially any topic related to Covid!

Other than that the most contentious issue is probably the never-ending whippy v stubby aerial debate.

Welcome to Z ownership and the forum, best forum I’ve seen. Looks a nice colour combo, not so much choice over here in NZ from a spec or colour perspective and most Z4’s are imported. Anyway, I am sure you’ll have lots of fun with the car and create some new memories with it.

Welcome and hope you chose a fwd gear when driving away from where the photo was taken.

Always a good start posting a photo. That would have been jumped on very quickly had you not.

Don't expect nothing controversial to be discussed, especially in the "Lounge". Topics can start easy and quickly develop, but never turns nasty, unlike twitter and Facebook.

Don't believe what you hear about the stubby v whippy debate, whippy won ages ago, it's just a few like Brexit, who won't accept the outcome.
