[SOLVED] Random Wire

Post by NewToZ4 » Sun May 30, 2021 5:09 pm

Hello All!
I am quite new to the Z4 but these things are awesome! picked one up a 2004 for a great deal runs great, interior just needs some cleaning. while cleaning said interior, i came across two hopefully connected problems. First, the heated seats don’t work, meaning the light turns on when u press the button, but immidiately turns off. I utilized a Foxwell tester and it recognizes when i press the button versus when not, but I don’t quite know if that helps. anyways there are two isolated wires hanging from the trim above the leg space on Both the driver and passenger side, and they are unplugged, but i cannot find where they go. any Help? Picture will be attached here, but it looks to be a Blue/Red wire, and a brown. and help will be much appreciated!

sounds about right. I was wishing it would be the connection for the heated seats, but. Oh well, that will be for another thread. Any idea where it would plug into? i have gotten my head under there and haven't seen any empty ports, so I'm lost.

the early Z4s came with a complete wiring loom for all the extras so the footwell connector is there but no footwell lights unless spec’d .
Just buy some after market lights and connect up :D

Thank you! If you wouldnt mind i do have another question then. As far as wiring goes, how would i go about converting that into a LED strip wiring as far as positive negative or something of that sort? or is that even possible (wirings not my forte, if it doesn't have bolts or screws im lost :? )

perfect thank you! I have seen tutorials on how people did it by splicing from the "clown nose" light and other interior lights and that will be a fun project :D any chance you would know how to disable the turning of said negetive? like If i wanted them on all the time, and only to turn them off by either a remote or smart phone? Thank you and sorry for the copious questions, wiring is not my expertise!

hey Mr. Stu, I know I'm quite out of date to be commenting on this thread, but I wanted to see if you would know if the lights would work if your car didn't originally come with the footwell lights. I found a set in a 7 series, and I don't know if they will be plug in play, or if I will need to get them coded in?

Footwell lights shouldn’t need coding. I expect they will be plug and play if you have a sufficiently early car with the full loom.

You can take the one out of the trunk and plug that in to check. Same connection.
While you're at it, they can easily be replaced with LED complete units.
The slots in the footwell trim should already be there too.
