The Longest Lurk?
Thanks for letting me join this fab forum. As you might guess from the heading, I’ve been aware of it for a while (actually since about 2008 ), but am not usually a forum person. Anyway, I'm here now!
Below are photos of the car. One taken a couple of days ago and one taken at Knights of Stoke on May 23rd 2009 - straight after I’d taken a test drive.
I collected it new but pre-registered on May 30th (a hot & sunny day) and as you can see, I still have it. It’s a Space Grey E85 2.5Si Sport which had 111 miles on the clock when collected and has now done about 64500 miles. That’s been mostly leisure, with lots of trips to France and one time also going through Switzerland to Lake Como in Italy.
I’ll post more info about the car soon, such as a full break-down of all the maintenance that’s been done, in case it’s helpful to anyone.
Regards, Mike

Better late than never, great looking car, and the fact you've owned it from new is impressive.

Thanks for the welcome and kind comments.
I find the Z4 ticks most of the boxes in terms of what I want from a sports car - and I can even get my push-bike in the boot!

It’s great you’ve owned your car since new. 12 years blimey! I don’t think I’ve ever owned a car longer than 3 years. Would have saved a fortune if I’d followed your example
I’m curious that after lurking so long why you’ve decided that it’s now the right time to join the forum? Must be all the friendly banter on here
Welcome by the way

Welcome! I'm slightly confused by this concept of "being happy with what you've got and keeping it"...

Hi and welcome to the forum Mike, at last!
It says something about Z4s if you have kept yours for 12 years - the longest I owned a car was 6 and a half years with my 123d that I bought as a pre-reg.
Still I did sell it because I had got my 1st Z4.

Coupes because stunning!

Welcome to the forum! Do you live in Staffordshire (asking as you bought the car in Stoke but that was a long time ago)? If so I'll keep an eye out for you because I live in Stafford.

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome. I think I joined now rather than ages ago because I'm starting to see the car as a classic rather than a new car (which in many ways it still seems to me), and because others might be interested in knowing about a car whose history is 100% complete. And the friendly banter. I don't think I'm the only one on the forum who's owned an E85/E86 since new though.
Did I tell you that it's still under manufacturer's warranty, and on original-spec run-flats? More about that later...
I live in Dewsbury (and always have), so travelled about 90 miles each way to Stoke to test drive and then collect the car. Well worth it of course, especially the drive home in the sunshine. From memory, I'd also been looking at Z4s in Wakefield, Bradford, Blackburn, and Manchester. It's great to hear about it when forum members travel the length of the country to get the right car!
I liked tiglon's comment! I think maybe I always viewed this purchase as being of a classic car-in-waiting that would age (like fine wine) rather than merely become old. It helps that a) it's very reliable; b) I can get the push-bike in the boot; c) it fits in a standard 16 x 8 garage.
Regards, Mike

Hi and welcome (eventually) to the forum,
I only live over the hill in Wakefield so will try and keep an eye out for you.
I know the feeling of keeping a car a long time as I had an Audi S3 from new and keep that for 13 years, only really sold it because it wasn’t practical for getting the grandkids and my mother in and out of.
Looks like you take good care of it, looks very nice
Mick
