Hello!

Post by Yoshinoma » Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:00 am

Hello all,

I am now in my mid 20’s and I am looking to join the world of Z4 ownership for the first time.

I have been looking at e89 35i’s as my preferred option. Any advice on things to look out for when purchasing would be much appreciated.

Thanks! :D

Hello and welcome.
I would like some advice from you, I think. I'm 30 years older than you and I can't afford a 35iS, or a 35 :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.

Thank you for the welcome :)

I wouldn't take my advice - I work in finance and it's pretty miserable!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Mid 20s and looking for a 35is, (must still live with parents)😁
Leaking from the front adaptive suspension is pretty common and expensive to replace, they also suffer from carbon buildup around the intake valve after around 70k miles causing rough idle/running. Injectors and fuel pumps failure also seem to be common and electronic water pumps fail around 70k to 100k miles
The e89 also suffers with battery related problems so that would be on my list for replacing and the folding hardtop roof can cause problems with sensors and wiring faults.
Having said all that I absolutely love mine, had it nearly 2 years and wouldn’t change it, I replaced the battery, did the intake valves and 4 new tyres and servicing but that’s all, the 19” 326 wheels can suffer from cracking so would recommend fitting non run flat tyres, mine had one replaced by a previous owner and also the adaptive front struts, they aren’t cheap to own and run but you only live once, hope you find a nice one and enjoy it :driving:

Only moved out of home 9 months ago so you're pretty much right!

Thanks for the welcome and the points to look out for. After driving a golf for the past 3 years it's time for something more exciting and the 35i/is definitely ticking that box! :D

Hello and welcome, very nice choice, for me spec was really important having had a lower spec one initially. A higher level stereo and iDrive were well up my must have list because if you like your music the base one isn’t the best. Can be upgraded for about £500-700 if you’re handy and can do it yourself.

I really like the DTC and with it and the car in Sports mode you’ll have more than enough fun.

Or go like most Golf’s either

My OH has an almost new Golf and when I drive it I keep looking at the rev counter to make sure it’s still running because I’m going nowhere slowly
