Check the microswitch located in the Boot behind the shelf middle of car. If it is bad this is possible your issues. You will have to remove the shelf/panel to get to it. Just look for youtube video's to see how.

If it is not unlocking from the windshield then that is you first point to solve. It could be something as simple as the locks sticking. do you here the unlocking actuator run?
First thing would be to manually unlock the roof from the windshield using the hex key provided in the tool kit. Have to remove the trim at the front to access the mechanism. Once unlocked, see if it then operates the rest of the way back.
I had a similar issue and the application of a very light smear of grease (I actually used vaseline) got the locking mechanism working freely again.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

When you’ve exhausted all other options, strip back the loom that runs along the roof frame above the passenger side window (on UK cars). You may find a broken (in my case, red) wire where the loom bends and the insulation has become brittle. Hard to find but easily fixed.

Did you get the roof to unlock? I’m stuck with the same issue. Key isn’t turning anything
