Exhaust System

Post by Pooltee » Sat Nov 16, 2019 5:23 pm

Hi all

I am a few weeks into z4 ownership now, and loving the car. However I feel the car is a little let down by the exhaust note.

I have searched online, and struggling to find many options for the 4 pot. Super sprint list one, but I feel the price is a little unrealistic at £1500.

Has anybody else gone down a different route, or have any opinions? I am unsure about a custom build due to the lack of r&d that goes into them.
2013 Z4 20i sDrive.

Remapped, and currently “interior” rattle free.

Early midlife crises and so far loving every minute of it!

Hi, if you have one of the 2litre turbo cars you can do the golf tee mod easily enough, it’s only a small difference but gives the car a bit more of an exhaust note

Just do a backbox delete.

Cheap and cheerful mod and easily reversible too.

Exhaust System

Yesterday had a the backbox removed from my 3.0 Coupe and now sounds like a sports car. I will publish a thread showing the work over the weekend with pictures as I have also replaced discs and pads and will be have Hunter alignment on Friday. Once the work was done I had to travel about 70 miles, town, country roads and dual carriageway so covered all basis.

Back to the delete -It does pop and burble at low speeds and of course it is easy to provoke such if you wish. it is loud under hard acceleration as you may expect but under constant driving speeds only slightly louder than normal without any undue drone. On some of the threads on here there has been talk of loss of power but I experienced none. The car seems to be less hesitant/freer flowing - I felt that it was restricted beforehand.

I was quoted up to £1k for a full exhaust, £350 to £500 for a reworked backbox but paid £150 plus the rear tip for the work I had done. My view point was/is that if I don't like the delete then I can replace in the future. The guy did a first class job in aluminum.

All said it brings out a little of my inner hooligan. I am really pleased with the effect.
