I feel your pain - unusual for us the Zed has not left the garage for 2.5 weeks. This is total nonsense

Covered it up to keep it clean and warm.
Just wish the weather would pick up, really didn't want to take it out now I've cleaned it :(

Swapped out the old rocker gasket cover. It was very brittle and one of the spark plug wells were half full with oil. I discovered a good way of getting the oil out.. Using a sprayer nozzle. See pics.

Took the cover off and fitted private plate, black grilles fitted a couple of weeks ago, also ordered a pair of salmon coloured relays for the roof as the car is 6yrs old now and they are due for changing.

You are pretty smart for a newbie :D
Changed my spark plugs and removed the bottom shield for some exhaust work. Luckily no sign of any serious oil leak on the N52 motor at this time. 60k miles

Thank you. I'm hoping that swapping out the gasket will stop the leak. Spark plugs are next on my list as I think the originals are still in (100k).

I ordered a back up camera to go with the smart phone projection gadget I picked up from bimmer tech.
Hope to get to the installation before the weather turns nice.

I happened upon a trick to right pictures when posting. If using windows 10 (most of us are) simply view the pic and slightly crop it or change any contrast setting etc. Then save the picture and then next time you post it it will be upright. I'm sure that's a great pic but my neck is sore from trying to view it :D

Jasonn wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2019 10:15 pm Weeeel I installed a dashcam just a cheapy from Amazon along with a hardwire kit, as it appears that people in Fiat 500s can't see my Zed. The cabling itself went well, almost too well even the hanging upside down whilst trying to maneuver the wire into the back of the fuse box wasn't too bad.....this is where things got a little bizarre

After removing the panel in the passenger footwell, I noticed a hole, complete with wiring leading to it, so I go back to the spec sheet (I bought the car second hand from an independent who gave me all the original dealer paperwork complete with the credit card receipts for the services) no mention of footwell lighting so much time spent here along with other resources and bulb suppliers trying to find a bulb that would fit.... I have just discovered that BMW put an "accessory charging point" here!

After realising this, I put everything back together and went to find the camera to power up, could I find it? Looked throughout the house, everywhere that I'd been and concluded after a few hours that it must have disappeared when I popped out to the shops, either falling out of my pocket or the door as I got out after spending all this time searching I then decided to see whether I could find something that used the same connector just to check it was still powered - when was the last thing you touched (other than a dashcam) that uses mini USB?

By now it was pitch black outside and I thought I ought to get my torch back from the car, so in a rare blast of common sense I picked up one of my spare torches and went out, after poking around under the passenger seat, I found my good torch along with the dashcam, complete with its magnetic base which decided to stick itself to the underside of the seat.

Is this typical of E89 ownership?
Not sure if i can blame E89 ownership but when replacing the globes on the DRL to LED recently (a reasonably straight forward procedure), the control box on one globe wasn't attached properly and fell down the gap at the back of the light. Initially I couldn't find it then managed to find it and knock it further down, and of course nothing falls out the bottom due to all the covers. 15 minute job, 90 minutes later, hot sweaty and fresh out of swear words, job done. Im confident that I could achieve your result with the magnetic dash cam.

Plates look good. Just out of curiosity what does your Department of Motor Vehicles charge you for the plates? In my State, in Australia, there is a variable order fee plus a variable yearly fee. They really see you coming when you want to get personalised plates. Ranging from $180 to $400 for the order, and between $109 and $469 annual fee!!! Really out of control and how they can justify the annual fee is beyond me, but thats the way it currently is.
